My parents checked me out and we walked to the car. Since I found out, I haven't said a word. Tyler told me he had to go home and said goodbye and that he was sorry. I still didn't say anything. There wasn't much I could say.
The car ride home was silent too. When we got home I walked upstairs and showered, got dressed, then sat on my small bay window hugging my knees. I heard a knock on my door but I didn't answer. The person came in anyways. I didn't bother to look to see who it was. The person sat next to me and started talking.
"Dinners ready if you want to eat." It was Eliot. I just shook my head no because I didn't feel like eating right now. "Ok. Whenever your ready to talk we're here and if you're hungry the foods down there." He walked out the door and closed it. I just stared at a blank spot outside my window with my mind blank, except for this one little thought going around in my mind. Your now cancer girl.
I must have been staring out the window for awhile because it was now dark. I was tired but didn't feel like going to bed so I just continued to sit there staring. Not moving, not talking, not eating. Just sitting there thinking.
Two days later and I was still in my room. My family has forced me to eat but my appetite was very low so I didn't eat a ton at a time. It was around noon and someone walked into my room.
"Elizabeth, time to do your homework from the last few days. We've given you a break because of the news but now you need to do it. If you want I'll help you but somehow it needs to be done." I still didn't answer, I just continued staring out the window like before. "Come on, Elizabeth! Say something please. Anything. Please!" Eliot begged. After I didn't answer he started to beg some more. "Please Elizabeth. Let me hear your beautiful voice. Let me hear you sing, or laugh. Please." His voice was braking so I decided to say something.
"Why?" I asked without looking away from the window.
"What?" he asked confused. I turned my head and looked him in the eyes with tears streaming down my face.
"Why me?" He looked out the window for a second then back at me with tears in his eyes.
"I don't know. I wish I did. I do know you don't deserve this but I'm not sure why you got it. I'm sorry." He said hugging my. I laid my head on his shoulder as we cried together. We were like that for about two minutes until I found the reason why.
"Is it because I'm a bad softball player?" I asked.
"What? Your not bad. Your great. Alexis is just stupid." He answered.
After a few more minutes of silence I told him I wanted to be alone so he left.
20 minutes later there was a knock on my door so I asked who it was and I didn't expect it to be the person who was outside my door. It was Alexis. I said she could come in so she did. She closed the door behind her and came up to me and sat beside me on my window. First thing she did was hug me.
"I am so sorry, Elizabeth. I was a jerk and you didn't deserve what I did to you. I am not better than you in any way at softball. If we aren't equally as good you're better. Can you forgive me?" She said.
"I don't know. You didn't stop or apologize until something bad happened to me. What happened to you? What happened to our friendship? Did I mean nothing to you?" I was now crying for the second time today.
"I'm sorry. I don't know what came over me. I was an idiot. I just want you and I to be friends again but I know I don't deserve you as a friend. If you don't forgive me and we're not friends again that's fine, I completely understand, but please at least accept my apology." I thought for a minute then hugged her, deciding to forgive her.
"I forgive you and I would love to be friends again." I replied.
I finally have my best friend back.
