We walk through the front door of Michael's apartment, and I'm actually really surprised. It's not a mess, and it isn't covered in posters for video games and nerdy movies. There also isn't a single instrument in sight. I had half expected it to look like one big man cave, but it looked like your average bachelor pad. His flat is more in the city part, unlike the rest of the boys. Ashton and Calum have small places in the suburb where Luke and I do.
Michael heads into the kitchen even though we just ate lunch, and I decide to look around the main room which is basically his living room, dining room, and kitchen all in one. He has one wall and it takes me by surprise. It's covered in picture frames, most of him and the boys. There's a few of their awards on a little shelf and one of the Teen Choice surfboards they won on display. They've won quadruple what's out here, and it's kinda cute how he doesn't have every single award showcased. It shows a little humility.
I look around more and see he has Daniel the lion sitting on a chair. As I look closer, I can see that some of the things framed are notes and collages from fans; all with twitter handles and little notes saying how much they love him. There's so many tiny little things filled with memories on this wall, and I can't help but hope that maybe one day I can be somewhere on this wall.
"Oh, my mum did all of that for me," Michael says, noticing that I'm staring. "I had all of that stuff just kinda thumbtacked to the wall so she came over and made this massive wall collage kinda thingy to surprise me. It's a little on the feminine side, but I like it." He has a sense of pride as he talks about his mom, a huge smile on his face.
"Where are all of your other awards?" I ask as I point to the tiny shelf.
"Oh, they're in my bedroom. I felt weird having them out on display," the platinum haired boy says while scratching the back of his neck.
We both just look at all of the pictures for several more minutes. The oven timer goes of, breaking the silence, and we head into the kitchen. We still aren't talking, but the quietness isn't awkward. It's more pleasant. I like how we can just be around each other and not have to say anything. Mikey opens the oven door and pulls out pizza bites, and I can't help but let out a loud cackle. He nearly drops the tray and looks at me with wide eyes.
"What the he- what was that?" He says, correcting himself before cursing. I find it so cute when guys watch their language around girls, I don't know why. I look at him embarrassed, my face turning red.
"...my laugh." I look down at my feet. I hate this laugh. I have about ten different laughs, and nine are unattractive.
"Hey hey I didn't mean it like that. It was just really loud and scared me." I feel arms wrap around me, and Michael rests his head on top of mine. This boy towers over me with a ten inch height difference. I can hear him chuckle slightly, probably at how easily my feelings got hurt.
"Can I have a pizza roll..." He laughs even more as I say this, and I can't help but smile. He lets go of me and grabs a plate from one of the cabinets. The tall boy hands me a plate full of pizza rolls and then gets himself some.
"Wanna play xbox for a little? They guys should be coming over in like four hours, so we've got time to kill."
"Do you have the old Call of Duty? The one with Nazi Zombies?"
"Wait what?" Michael says, almost choking on his snack. "Of course I do. You know what Zombies is?!"
"Yeah. Now where's your xbox?"
