"Oh my God. Luke. You scared the shit out of me."
"Oh sorry," he lets out a small chuckle. He's hardly visible under our unlit front porch. Only the small glint of a street light off of his lip ring give indication of who was waiting for me. "I need to ask you something that I was gonna bring up in the car."
He steps out of the shadows and I can see he's wearing an adorable beanie with a pompom on it.
"Uh," I start. I'm slightly nervous about what he might need to say. "sure... Waddya need buddy?"
"Buddy? What am I five?" He laughs. "I just was wondering. If you, you know," oh no. He can't like me. As beautiful as this little bean pole of a person is, I like Michael. And regardless of that, I can't get too attached. Enjoy their presence but don't depend on it. That's my plan. "Do you actually want us in your life?"
"What?" Well there's a question I wasn't expecting. There's a look of shock and confusion on my face and I can tell Luke wasn't expecting this reaction.
"No I didn't mean it like- it's just- we- well- the lads and I, we were talking. We realized we kind of forced ourselves into your life and we changed up a bunch of your plans. We didn't really ask if you wanted a job or to room with Mali or anything like that we just kinda forced it on you.
"We really like you and just wanted to help be we did it a little selfishly. I just wanted to let you know that we can go away if you want us to."
Is this my chance? Do I cut them loose to prevent myself from pain in the near future?
"No, Luke I'm glad you guys stepped in and took over because I didn't have a game plan or anyone to help me. It's just..." Time to be honest Skye. "I don't wanna get hurt when you guys don't have time for me anymore. You guys have amazing lives and I don't think I can fit into them."
Now it's Luke's turn to look at me with shock and confusion. He walks over to me and cups my cheeks, lifting my face so I'm looking him in the eyes.
"Skye. We're not going to just leave you in the dust. We really like you and we want you to stick around. I promise we won't hurt you."
I can feel tears forming in my eyes and curse under my breath. I wrap my arms around the blonde boy's waist burrowing my face in his chest.
"Thanks Puke"
"Puke?? Since when am I Puke?!"
"I didn't mean to say that out loud," I say while covering my mouth trying not to laugh. "That's what my sister always called you."
"She sounds rude, and I don't like her," he says in a serious tone, but I can feel him shaking with laughter and know he isn't actually insulted.
"So is this all we needed to discuss? Because I'm exhausted and would love to go to bed now."
"Yeah that's all. Goodnight Skye."
Luke leaves a small kiss on the top of my head before letting go of me and leaving. Finally, I can go to sleep and not overthink about losing my four best friends. They're staying.

As exhausted as I am, when I get out of the bath I don't go to bed. Instead I find my guitar that I put in my closet the day I moved in. Mali is out with Sarah so I don't have to worry about waking anyone up.
The clock reads 7:15pm. I'll just play for an hour. After pulling out my capo and a pick, I grab my laptop and Google chords to a song. I haven't played Robbers in ages and I'm rusty at first, but after the first verse I can play it without reading the screen. The chords are engraved in my brain. G. D. Em7. Cadd9. repeat.
