(Above is Rusty in the militia uniform, but he has brown hair and coal gray eyes)
Jaune was in the small grove he went to when his family was treating him like a doll.
It had shade, plenty of vines that he could climb if a Grimm came or wanted some wild melons to eat(he checked if any of them were poisonous and hold his weight).Despite being 9 years old he was quite cunning, and slipped away while his sisters were arguing about what to do. He knew a few pet peeves of theirs to heat up the argument at intervals to keep them distracted. Chewing on a melon, he wondered why his parents didn't give him any training. It was the fourth time he asked, but both his parents said no. He wasn't asking for anything crazy, just how to use a weapon properly without hurting himself. Cutting branches or vines with an old axe/knife(he found it while cleaning the basement and decided to keep the old thing) didn't exactly equal combat training.
Taking one last bite he went to explore before heading back. Grabbing the knife and using both hands, extended the handle and had the blade fold over itself. He couldn't find parts to fix the automatic function, but he liked manual switching better. He them jumped and swung through the foliage. "Okay, this is the only place I didn't look on the ground." He thought, looking around until he saw a spot where no trees grew. climbing down he saw signs of a building, rotting boards, metal boxes and a tire. After seeing a hole in the ground, which might have been a basement, he ran to the gate to inform the two guards of a possible Grimm nest.
Hey, he was curious, not stupid.
When he got to the guard house he saw Rusty and Jewel taking turns looking around the forest edge, while the other ate or filed through documents. Jewel was the first to see him, alerting her partner who set down his drink once he saw Jaune. "What's wrong kid, usually you go over the fence, did you see a Grimm?" Rusty said, preparing to grab his ballista-shield(Junks). Jewel's faunus ears flicked before she looked at him, her yellow and blue eyes glowed briefly before she spoke.
"I don't hear anything, and you're not injured either, what happened?" she asked calmly.
"I found a building, or what's left of it," after placing his pack on the desk for a routine search he continued. "I saw a hole big enough for a Grimm to go in, so there might be a nest, it's an 8 minute jog for me so it's not far."
Rusty frowned as he crushed a tick on the pack. The gate they're stationed at leads to the ocean that makes the Mistral-Vale border, the only thing there is a harbor for ships that pass, with an archipelago too small to map acting as a bridge. If Grimm made a nest there...
"Thanks for telling us, we'll tell the captain after our shift, there should be some people ready to deal with it." Tossing a can in recycling, he adjusted the bandanna covering his brown hair. "Isn't the shoemaker, Bearskin, a reserve member?" He asked.
"He also hunts for his own leather, so he's light on his feet." Jewel answered. "Go on in, come back around noon tomorrow so you can show us that basement."
Nodding while he grabbed his pack, he walked to his house, but not before selling his wares. Gaining 25 for three melons, and another 15 to a lady who needed berries for paint. While he walked back he overheard things, like a man needing rocks for concrete, and the butcher muttering about some kindling for her smoker.
He made it to the yard and placed the pack in the toolshed, then entered through the back door. His mom was in the living room, checking the news, giving an absentminded wave as he headed to his room.
