Valentina
Venice, Italy was gorgeous place to be. It had been four days since it all. Four days. Today, I sat alone at this lovely bridge in Venice. I fidgeted with the decorative zipper on my all-black dress and watched the tourists laugh and smile, as they enjoyed their vacations.
I wasn't smiling. I was in so much pain. I had only been with my family for a short while, and I never understood the pain of losing someone you love until now.
I felt the warm breeze blow through my hair and thought about all the things that had brought me to this moment. I grew up alone; I had no one to share joyous and painful experiences with. Then, a miracle happened. I was given a loving family who would care for me. I had siblings and parents. Now, I was here in Italy with almost all of them.
Venice was the one of the most beautiful souls I had ever met. She was kind, radiant and full of life.
Today, was her funeral.
Venice Kassandra Romano
She was only sixteen. She had her whole life ahead of her and now she was just gone.
A hand touched my back, and I looked up and saw my brother, Lorenzo.
"Let's get going," he said plainly, ushering me towards the car.
Lorenzo had followed me out here because he didn't want me to be alone. I could see the pain in his eyes, he had know Venice her whole life. I couldn't imagine how awful must be feeling. We drove in silence, with the occasion sniffle or cough, and made our way home by sunset.
I went straight to my room and flopped onto my bed. I put on a random movie to distract myself, but it was no use. I couldn't get that day in the hospital out of my head. I could remember every little detail:
The chemical smell of hospitals always made me queasy. My mother was pacing up and down the corridor. Marina was wiping away her tears. My father was talking to someone over the phone in a serious tone. Lorenzo looked like he was ready to punch something.
Tyler was awkwardly sitting beside me on the floor. Why was he here??? He's so oddly impulsive sometimes.
"I think you should go, Tyler. I can't do this right now," I said softly.
He nodded his head. "Yeah. I thinks that's best. I booked the next flight out. Umm, yeah. I hope everything gets better soon," He stuttered, picking up his jacket and walking away.
As the shadow of his body disappeared into the outside world, I couldn't help but wonder where Maddox had gone off to.
Minutes later, a doctor finally came out of the operating room.
"Are you all the family of Venice Romano?" she asked.
We all nodded, anticipating a response.
"We have done everything we could, but Venice had lost too much blood, she has passed."
I felt a wave of coldness flood my body. She was really gone.
I stared blankly at the television screen. I felt so empty... but I still couldn't help but wonder where Maddox had gone. A small part of me wondered if he had something to do with it.
Maddox
I was so fûcking tired of being tied to the damn chair. I was hungry, dehydrated, and slightly scared. I knew they wouldn't kill me, that would be too easy. I was more worried about Valentina and her family.
These people could do anything they wanted to them. They were dangerous and ruthless. I don't want Valentina to be hurt by them...
"JUST TELL ME YOUR NAME ALREADY! WHERE AM I? HOW LONG HAVE I BEEN HERE?" I yelled.
I knew my telling was no use. No one has come for me. Not even that women in the beach who
looked like Irina. If that wasn't Irina, I have no idea who it could be. She had a soft Russian accent and no scar above her eyebrow.
To my surprise, the girl who had taken me from the beach had come into the dark basement where I was all tied up.
She was wearing a tight red clubbing dress, big goons and her hair was down in waves.
"My, my, my... You are quite the handful aren't you," she snickered.
I rolled my eyes and pulled at the retracts around my wrists. "Who the hell are you? Why am I here?"
She grinned. "I go by H around these parts. You're here because you have access to the one person who could make me millions..."
"No! I won't do that. You'll have to kill me first. I won't hurt her."
"Silly you. I don't need you to hurt her. I can do that myself. You see, we finally go into your phone," she stated as she walked closer into my ear, then she whispered "We are coming for her... for all of them. We already got rid of one, I bet you're wondering who, maybe it's the baby or the older brother..."
Her face was inches away from mine. I was furious. I lunged forward and buy into her earring and pulled back. There the earring fell to the floor and hear earlobe dripped blood.
"Owww!" she screamed, clinging onto her ear.
She punched me in the jaw, knocking me out.
I'm so sorry, Valentina.
