AN:
Eren simps, this chapter is for you specifically :))

The three years of training passed much quicker than I thought they would. I was honestly surprised when Sasha had pointed out there were only a few months until our graduation. I ended up making it into the top ten, ranking second to Mikasa, whom I was no match for. It wasn't that I got lucky, either. I was exhausted from spending my free time doing nothing but training, to my friends' dismay. "But that's all you do!" Sasha whined whenever I said I was going to practice.
"It'll be pretty hard to kill titans if I can't use my ODM gear properly," I responded, already leaving.
"But you can use it properly!" she said, "you're one of the best in the class! You need to give it a rest." I usually ignored her and went to training anyway, though I'll admit I do regret not spending as much time with my friends as I could've. Especially since making it to the top ten didn't help as much as it would've had I wanted to join the Military Police.
Despite spending less time with them than I would've preferred, I became good friends with Sasha, Connie, Jean, and Marco. Of course, I maintained my friendship with Eren, even though I didn't speak to him as much as the others. I assume it was because of our common goal, but it could've also been because of how long we'd known each other.
I held my fists in front of my chest, readying myself for Eren's attack. He was finally past the point of trying to use Annie's technique since I already learned it a year ago (the hard way) and knew how to counter it. This was one of our last days of hand to hand combat before we began preparing for our graduation, and I was determined to beat Eren before we joined the Scouts. I was definitely better than him when it came to titan killing and ODM gear, but he was much better at hand to hand combat than I was.
When Eren raised his fists, I knew he wouldn't make the first move alone, so I lunged towards him, stopping on my heels halfway. He dodged to my right, thinking I'd swing at him, but not realizing I'd stopped. As I expected, when he leaned to the side he left his right arm wide open. I quickly grabbed his free arm with both of my hands and threw him to my left, making him hit the dirt with a thud. He sat up and rubbed his head and I turned with raised eyebrows.
"Sorry, that was a little aggressive," I said, extending my hand to help him up.
"It's fine," he shook his head and grabbed my hand, pulling himself up, "I've probably beat you up too hard more times, anyway."
"Was that an apology?" I asked, surprised.
"What?"
"Nevermind," I laughed and almost choked when I realized I hadn't let go of his hand. I quickly dropped it and hurried away from the training grounds, hiding my slightly red face, "We're gonna be late to dinner!" I screamed, sprinting towards the mess hall. I heard Eren laugh and follow me more slowly.
I flung open the door to the mess hall and scrambled to grab my food, practically falling into my seat between Jean and Sasha at our usual table.
"Did you beat him?" Sasha grinned, grabbing my arm.
"Yep!" I smiled, waving to Eren as he walked into the mess hall.
"You know what I think," Sasha said, "I think we should celebrate--"
"I think we shouldn't," I deadpanned, embarrassed.
"--by you giving me some of your food," Sasha grabbed a piece of bread from my plate and shoved it into her mouth before I even had the chance to react. Connie laughed hysterically as I noticed Eren sit at a separate table with Mikasa, Armin, Ymir, and Krista. He seemed determined and somewhat in a good mood for the first time in a while. I guessed he was excited to finally be so close to becoming a Scout.
