"This is what we know," Hanji's voice rang around the courtroom, "For starters, Y/N L/N traveled with the Survey Corps in the Levi S—I mean, Special Operations Squad in the beginning of the expedition. The Female Titan chased the Squad for some time, L/N included in the group of victims that were chased," I listened to Hanji explain to everyone what had happened, praying she'd include the fact that I knew nothing. I was chained to the same pole Eren had been chained to not even two months ago, though I was almost positive I had less of a chance at surviving than he had, considering what I'd apparently done.
"The Female Titan was halted by myself and my team, allowing the Special Ops to proceed. Captain Levi Ackermann separated from the group and they continued on for a while before stopping to take a break," Hanji told the crowd. That was as much as I could remember myself, "L/N left the group to get some fresh air, though did not return in time for the Squad to leave with her, so she was left behind in hopes she would catch up shortly. At this moment, the Female Titan screamed and dozens of titans rushed forward to eat the body of it, allowing the shifter to escape," Hanji glanced at me, but I didn't see her as I was staring at Eren.
I had absolutely no recollection of deciding to run off by myself... why had no one stopped me? Or at least tried? I was a little hurt they had just forgotten about me and left, especially with my skill.
"The Female Titan escaped and slaughtered the Special Ops Squad with the exception of Levi Ackermann, Eren Jaeger, and Y/N L/N," I winced and began to sweat when Hanji told the court that. Surely I was doomed now. "After killing the Squad, the Titan captured Jaeger and took off, though was followed by a single mindless titan. The mindless titan somehow managed to bite the Female Titan's nape and they both fell to the ground."
I could've sworn my heart skipped a beat. Had I been the mindless titan?
"After a few minutes, L/N is believed emerged from the nape of the mindless titan, but Eren Jaeger is the only one who claims to have seen her. Mikasa Ackermann as well as Levi Ackermann confirmed that someone came out of the nape of the mindless titan, however they did not say the person was Y/N L/N."
So it was me.
"Before anyone could know for sure who was in the titan, the person in the nape of the mindless titan disappeared as a flash of lightning appeared from the sky and transformed into the Female Titan," Hanji winced at her explanation, realizing how much blood it left in my hands, "And that's the report," she looked back at Dhalis Zachary, the same judge who had decided Eren's fate. He nodded.
"First, I would like to hear the Military Police Regiment's proposal," he glanced at me, "as to what should be done with L/N."
I looked over to see Nile stepping forward, the same guy I swore to pay back for being so eager to kill Eren. He stepped out in front of the rest of the higher-ups in his regiment, though not close to me, as though her were scared of me. To be completely honest, I'd be scared of me too. I was getting incredibly pissed off.
"The Military Police Regiment's proposal is that the subject be disposed of immediately," Nile announced. He could've at least used my name. "she is a danger to humanity. We already have a so-called 'savior of humanity' we believe it's a better choice to eliminate another risk," his gaze darkened, "as well as the fact that the death—no, murder—of our comrades cannot be overlooked."
"Is that everything?" Zachary checked.
"Yes, Sir," Nile replied before walking back to his place with confidence. He seemed to believe he had convinced the crowd, though I didn't know whether or not he truly had.
"Fine, then it's the Survey Corps turn to announce their proposal," the judge responded as he looked over at Commander Erwin, who stood up and stepped forward.
"Allow us to assume that Eren Jaeger is a true enemy to humanity, and that he is not willing to help us. In this case, demise is inevitable, which means two things," he looked at me, "Y/N will join his side, and make our eventual extinction quicker, or she will take our side, and could potentially save humanity," murmurs spread throughout the crowd.
"Is that all?" Zachary inquired.
"It is not," Erwin said respectfully as he continued, "Under the circumstance that Jaeger is not an enemy to humanity, it's likely that neither is Y/N. And even if she is someone who wants to eliminate the human race, we ought to be able to count on Eren to take care of her himself."
"Eren couldn't take care of her on the scouting mission!" someone shouted. I whipped my head around to see who dared speak out of turn, but I was stopped by a glare from Erwin.
"I am not finished," he said, louder than usual. Everyone shut up, as there wasn't anyone not afraid of the Commander, "The Survey Corps proposes that Y/N L/N be treated the same as Eren Jaeger," he went on to explain how Eren slept in a cell and was monitored at all times, etc.
"And how do you plan on taking into account the murder of the Special Ops Squad?" Zachary asked suspiciously.
"We do not think that L/N is the one who killed them. We believe she was transformed—somehow—into a mindless titan," Erwin said, unbelievably patient, "Section Commander Hanji's research proves that by eating a titan shifter, one can gain their powers as long as they've been somehow transformed into a mindless titan. It is our common belief that that is what happened to Y/N L/N."
Dhalis Zachary nodded and sat for a moment, rubbing his beard and looking at his desk. After a few minutes that felt like hours, he spoke up. "I have reached a verdict."
I felt a chill run down my spine as I prayed that I'd be given to the Survey Corps.
"Since they've seemingly handled Eren as planned, Y/N L/N will be turned over to the Survey Corps Regiment."
