I awoke with a start as I heard a loud banging on my door. I groaned and rubbed my eyes, feeling worried when I realized it was still dark outside. Just as I got up to open the door, it flung open and a body came flying at me, tackling me to the floor. "Y/N!" Sasha's voice screamed.

"Sasha?" I asked, surprised, hugging her back and sitting up, "You joined the Scouts!" I exclaimed, coming to my senses. She nodded, though she looked as though she herself was pretty regretful of her decision, "What about Connie and the others?" I asked excitedly, standing and helping her up.

"They all joined, too!" she replied, dragging me to the door, "Let's go see them! We have to leave soon, anyway."

"Jean and Marco went for the Military Police, I presume?" I added, slightly annoyed.

"Jean decided to come to the Scouts..." Sasha said, frowning slightly. I waited for her to continue, but she didn't.

"And Marco...?" My heart stopped. Had Marco made it out of Trost...? Had that really been him laying against the wall back there? No, it couldn't have been... Marco didn't die. That was just a dream I had--

"Let's go see the others," Sasha said, putting on a smile and pulling me down the stairs, "Like I said: We all have to leave soon." A smile returned to my own face at the thought of seeing all my friends again, and I hurried after her down the stairs.

I stood next to Eren and stared in awe and the group of people in front of me. They were my friends, half of which I never thought I'd see again. "If you're all here..." Eren said, looking around the group, "That means you all decided to join the Scouts?" I laughed, filled with relief and happiness at our sudden reunion.

"Well, yes, Eren," I said sarcastically, "Why else would they be here?" Eren just shook his head, a hint of a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.

"So only Jean, Annie, and Marco joined the Military Police?" My heart skipped a beat and the group fell silent. I jumped when I heard footsteps behind me, spinning around as Sasha and Connie stared at the person behind Eren and me, "No way, not you too..." Eren said, looking up slightly at Jean.

"Marco's dead," Jean said, emotionless. I felt my stomach turn and twist inside me, my fears being put into words didn't feel good at all. I guess it was good to know for sure, but I almost wanted to grasp onto the hope that he was still alive without dealing with the anxiety that he was likely dead. I heard Eren take a sharp breath of the cold air.

"What was that?" I noticed him smile slightly, but he wasn't happy. It was an insane smile, filled with disbelief and hatred. It was definitely Eren, though I hated seeing anyone that way, "Did you say Marco's dead?" Jean's emotionless face gave way to a furious expression, though he remained calm.

"Not everyone gets a dramatic death," he said, venom in his words, "I don't even know how he died," I heard Annie shift behind me, but didn't move, "No one saw it." Eren's gaze fell to the ground beneath Jean's feet and his mouth hung open.

Even though I knew subconsciously from the day it happened, hearing the truth aloud ripped me to shreds. What could I possibly have been doing that was so important I let Marco die? He would've saved me, had he been given the chance, so why did I fail to do the same for him? Was I in any place to even assume he'd even have saved me? I certainly wouldn't have deserved it because of how much more I cared about the destruction of Titans over my friends. Or were they my friends? Was I deserving of their friendship in the first place?

I felt a hand touch my shoulder gently. I turned to see Eren resting his hand on my shoulder and gazing into my eyes. When I looked up to meet his concerned eyes, I saw that everyone had gone. "They had to leave in a rush," he said, noticing me look around the plaza, "Are you okay?"
