Sasha froze in place and I could feel her starting to shake as the person scanned the open area surrounding the barracks. I pulled Sasha behind a tree and peeked out from behind it to see that my eyes were finally better adjusted to the light.
The person standing outside of the barracks, waiting for someone. I figured it was probably us. He was tall but shorter than most of the others, who were all ridiculously tall. I noticed his head was shaved and..."Oh!" I turned to Sasha, "It's Connie!"
Sasha just looked at me with a confused look plastered onto her face. "Who's Connie?"
"He's a cadet too. He was at the training earlier—oh, yeah. He was the one who the recruiter guy picked up by the head." Sasha shook her head, not remembering. I'm not sure if I'd have remembered the little details either if I was in her situation.
I hadn't hoped that my first impression on Connie would be by him catching us stealing from the kitchen, so I did what I could to avoid him. "Is there a back entrance?" I asked Sasha. She shook her head again in fear. "We might just have to try to convince him to keep his mouth shut... and I'll fight him if we don't think he will," I told the shaking Sasha, who still had a potato in her mouth, "It's our only choice. I'll go alone, and then you can follow once I take care of it."
"Gawh ih," Sasha mumbled around her potato. I took a deep breath and stepped out of the shadows, praying Connie wouldn't say anything too loud and get us caught.
"Good evening," my voice shook as I neared the entrance to the girls' barracks and Connie uncrossed his arms.
"It's almost two in the morning," he pointed out, staring at the sack of potatoes in my arm.
"Do you plan on snitching?" I dared him, willing to do anything to protect Sashas and myself's food.
"Nope," Connie laughed, "I just noticed you guys went to raid the kitchen and I wanted to make sure you invited me next time!"
"What."
"Next time you raid the kitchen, let me know," he said again.
"No, Connie, I'm not risking getting caught by the higher-ups or the other boys in your barracks just to have another person to babysit," I replied, pushing past him towards the screen door of our barracks.
"How do you know my name?" he asked, scared.
"You screamed it like a baby when that recruiter picked you up by your thick-ass skull," I giggled, "I'm Y/N if you don't know. Not that it matters, because you can't come with us next time or any time."
"But why?" Sasha whined, making me jump. She'd appeared next to me out of thin air, "He can help us!"
"He'll eat some of our food," I warned her, making sure she didn't side with him.
"No, I won't!" Connie argued.
"Then why are you even coming?" I asked, raising an eyebrow, "Sounds sketchy."
"It just sounds like fun! I'm not going to go that far for just food, anyway," he said, "you guys are crazy--" I glared at him, "--i-in a good way!"
"Fine. Which window should we knock on?"
Connie grinned and pointed out where we could catch his attention without the others in his quarters noticing. I was less worried about the boys finding out than I was about one specific boy finding out. I could beat silence into the others, but Eren was a whole different story. It wasn't that he'd snitch, but he'd probably get super mad at me for it. I knew he wasn't afraid to since we'd known each other for so long. Worst case scenario, both he and Mikasa could find out. Then I'd really be screwed.
