The rain had ceased as Mikasa and I neared the place where the rest of the cadets were gathered. We finally landed on the rooftops, and Mikasa hurried over to Annie.

"I have a basic understanding of what's going on," she said, "and I'm sorry to involve my personal feelings, but do you know where Eren's team is?" I knew that she already knew Eren was gone, but if I was her I'd double-check, too. Annie said she didn't and Reiner pointed out Armin sat in a corner up against a wall with his head down. "Armin!" Mikasa called out, rushing over to him. I couldn't bear to face either of them, so I looked down at the ground and turned away from them. When I looked away, I saw Sasha standing a few meters away.

"Sasha!" I cried, sprinting over to her, "I'm so glad you're okay!" she smiled and hugged me quickly.

"The members of Trainee Corps team 34..." I heard Armin cry, "Thomas Wagner, Nack Tias, Milius Zermusky, Mina Karolina... and Eren Jaeger!" he struggled to keep his voice steady, "These five died valiantly in the line of duty!" Everyone stared at him in silence, trying to process what had happened.

"No..." I heard Sasha whisper.

"I'm sorry, Mikasa," Armin managed to say, "Eren sacrificed himself... for me. I... I couldn't do anything! I'm sorry..." Mikasa knelt down and put her hand on his.

"Armin," she said. He looked up and I noticed his face was soaked in rain mixed with tears, "this isn't the time to get emotional."

"H-Huh?" Armin whispered.

"Now, stand," Mikasa said gently, standing up herself and helping Armin up too, "Marco, if we eliminate the titans swarming HQ, then we can refuel and climb the walls. Am I correct?" she walked towards the edge of the roof, everyone's heads turning as she walked past us.

"That's right, but..." Marco said nervously, "...but even with you here, there are too many--"

"I can do it," Mikasa cut him off and stared at him, ice in her gaze. Marco looked shocked, "I'm strong!" she raised her sword into the air, "Stronger than you guys. Very strong. Therefore, I can defeat those titans! Even on my own." Everyone stared at her in astonishment as she continued, "You are not only weak, but you are spineless cowards. Y/N and I were the only ones who continued fighting when we were told to retreat and let our comrades die. I'm disappointed in all of you. Just stay here... stay here and watch." Objections erupted among the cadets.

"What're you saying, Mikasa?"

"You're going to fight all those titans by yourself?"

"There's no way you can do that!"

I just watched her patiently. The others were wrong. She certainly could do it herself, if she really wanted to. She was so far above our level, it was a miracle she didn't graduate on the first day of training. "If I can't, I'll die," she said, turning to face HQ, which was swarming with titans, "but if I win, I'll live. If I don't fight, I can't win." With that, she jumped off the roof and made a beeline for headquarters, fully prepared to slaughter the titans herself. I couldn't let that happen. Without a word, I followed her.

I heard Jean yelling behind me to the rest of the cadets, but his voice eventually faded with the wind. "Mikasa!" I called through the fog from the recent downpour. She turned to face me, not stopping her ODM gear and killing a titan along the way. "Your gas!" I shouted as she zipped through the streets, cutting the nape of another titan, "At this rate, you'll r--" I saw her slow down suddenly, and begin to fall through the air.

"Mikasa!" Armin screamed. I turned to see the rest of the 104th following us to headquarters and Armin going after Mikasa. I started to go after them both when I heard Connie shout.
