*Phoenix's POV*
I was silent for a few minutes before I spoke.
"My family is extremely... strict and traditional, following every rule our ancestors made for us. That is... until I came along. I contradicted everything my family had learned in the past generations, everything they had followed. I came along and they didn't know what to do with me, so they shunned me, punished me, hell, they even tried to kill me a few times." I said with a humorless chuckle.
"Why would they do that?" Niall asked, completely horrified.
"Because I was different, in every sense I was and I am different than them. Not just the fact of my personality, but everything. What I am." I said.
"What you are? I don't get what you mean." Niall said, confused.
"When I tell you, please have an open mind about everything in this world. There are things in this world the everyday person doesn't know." I said, waiting for Niall's reaction to the first part of my explaination.
He only gestured for me to continue.
"One of those things is my family... more specifically... me. I am the mythical creature of my family of everyday animals. I am the Phoenix among the bluebirds, literally. I am shunned because I am a threat to my family. That is why I am to always be punished if I reenter this city. It is to make sure I don't eliminate my family." I said, seeing Niall's eyes widen by the word, "You're reconsidering asking me out, aren't you?" I asked. His eyes filled with disbelief.
"Why would you ask that? I believe you, 'Nix. You told me to have an open mind and I do. All of it makes so much more sense now. So what kind of powers do you have?" He asked excitedly.
I could only laugh at his childlike innocence, "I can transform into a phoenix, I have extremely heightened senses and strength, and I can control fire." I said. His eyes widened to the size of disks.
"That's brilliant, Love." He said in an awed voice.
I smiled, "I'll show you when I get out of here, deal?" I offered.
He laughed, "That's a deal I'm going to hold you to, Little Bird." He said, squeezing my hand.
We sat in silence for a few minutes, just staring into eachother's eyes. I know it sounds cheezy and awkward, but that wasn't the case. It was uncomfortable at all.... it was kind of cheezy, though... not that I care.
"So when are you and the boys leaving?" I asked, breaking the silence.
"A few days, I think. 4 or 5 days at the max."
I frowned, "I'll miss you... and the guys, of course." I said, with a laugh.
"I'll miss you, too. Believe me. You don't know how much I'll miss you, Firefly." He said. I raised an eyebrow at him, questioning the nickname, "It just came to me. And only me and you will know the meaning." He said with an adorable smile.
"Sounds good to me." I laughed.
A knock sounded on the door and my doctor walked in, "Ms...... Horan? I believe this is the first time we've been able to speak. My name is Dr. Milley." She said, touching my shoulder so softly I barely felt it. My cheeks lit up red, as did Niall's.
"Liam filled out the paperwork." He said quickly, clearing his throat. Some of the pink faded from his cheeks. I calmed down alittle, too, and turned to the doctor.
