My immediate reaction was to push Jill aside and run away to my room. Jill just stood static overwhelmed by the consequent laughter. She eventually followed me into my room and sat beside me on the bed. "Well that was really embarrassing" she said while snuggling up to me. "Your teammates were just leaving, if you couldn't already tell""Yes I noticed thank you" I responded trying to maintain a serious face but a series of giggles escaped as Jill pulled me down into a cuddle.
"On the bright side we now have the place to ourselves" Jill responded with her head placed on my chest. She was insinuating that we would take things further. I pulled myself out of the hug.
"I'm not ready yet. I'm sorry Jill" I said nervously. Jill's response took me by surprise
"That's fine i understand, we can just cuddle for a bit then." I nodded my head in approval of her suggestion. I felt really safe with her snuggled up beside me. As we lay there the conversation stops but the silence isn't awkward. In this time I got to thinking about how hard it's going to be not being able to see her as often as I would have liked. The location of our teams meant that the majority of our time would be spent at opposite sides of the country. Jill must have noticed my mind at work and broke the comfortable silence.
"Penny for your thoughts" she said
"Huh" i responded totally confused "what are you on about?"
"Beth told me it's an English phrase, no? It means what are you thinking."
"I've never heard of it before" we both burst out laughing at my stupidity. "I'm okay I'm just going to miss you when you leave. Which is crazy because this time last week I didn't even know you existed. It's all gone so quick"
"It's been a whirlwind I know, how about I make you dinner tonight?"
"I'd love that but shouldn't you spend some actual time with Jackie as you are here to see her?"
"I'm only with Jackie because I was fed up of being around all the couples at Arsenal. But now I have you I want to make you dinner tonight"
"Have me huh? Rude of you to presume that I want to be with you" i said purely as a joke.
"Don't you?" She said with a really cute concerned look on her face
"Of course I do you idiot. Dinner sounds great"
I sent Jill off in the direction of the corner shop so that she could get some ingredients for the meal tonight. Meanwhile I just relaxed on the bed and accidentally fell asleep. By the time I woke up from my nap the flat was transformed. She has lit candles and bought flowers which were in a vase on the kitchen table. As I walked out my room happy tears were brought to my eye. Jill rushed over offering me a kiss as a solution.
"How did you manage to get rid of Aoife?"
"I didn't she's just popped to the toilet. As much as I want to spend time with you I thought it's important to get to know your friends"
"Fair enough" i said slightly disappointed. Overall, Jill was probably right, if we wanted to give this a go we would need the support from our friends because long distance for a new relationship was going to be undoubtedly hard.
The evening started off fairly awkwardly with Aoife chipping in with uncomfortable questions that put Jill and I on the spot. Eventually she settled down and we began to have fun. Thankfully Aoifes parents rang her soon after the meal had finished so she disappeared off to her room while me and Jill did the washing up. Once we had finished Jill announced she should go soon as she's got a long journey tomorrow.
"Don't go, I was wrong I'm ready. I want you Jill"
