It's a double update kind of day today :)It could have been literally anyone that messaged me. 'Sorry who is this? I don't have the number saved in my phone. Thankyou :)'
'Soph, it's dad. You blocked my number so I bought a new sim'
I was shocked. Adam said that my dad was okay with Jill but I didn't believe him until now.
'Thanks Dad. I'm sorry' I responded
'It's history don't worry. Me and your mum watched the game. You played well' he texted back
My parents are watching my games? I thought they'd given up on me. I thought about the advice Jills mum gave me to not give up on my family. I'm glad I listened because things seem to be turning a corner.
Lia came in my room. "Ready to go pick Jill up" she asked
"Yep let's go"
I was a bit nervous to see Jill. I wasn't sure what kind of mood she would be in. When we arrived at the hospital we went straight to her room. She didn't need to be admitted any longer so we were able to take her straight home.
She barely spoke. This has just hit her like a tonne of bricks. I didn't know what to do to make things better for her.
Things got worse when we remembered that Caitlin was arriving today.
"Shell just have to stay somewhere else" said Lia
"We can't do that, she's had a long flight" I said
"Guys, it's fine. I just want to be by myself anyway so you two go" Jill said
"Are you sure?" I double checked
Jill nodded her head. We got her settled at home so that she didn't have to move too much while we were gone.
"We won't be long" I said as I shut the door and headed out to the car alongside Lia.
We headed to the club to go and get Caitlin. The rest of the girls were in recovery training at the time but we had been given the day off to help with Jill. Caitlin was doing her medical when we arrived
"We weren't expecting you" said joe
"What do you mean? This was the plan" I said
"Yes but with Jill I just thought-" I interrupted joe before he could finish
"Joe it's fine, Jill doesn't want us around at the moment so we may as well do something useful"
"Is she not dealing with it very well" he asked
I looked at Lia not knowing how to respond without throwing Jill under the bus to the manager.
"She's fine, just getting her head around it" said Lia
"Bring her in with you tomorrow, we will get a sports psychologist to see her" he offered
"Will do boss" I said
"Right well we better go tell Caitlin there's been a change of plan" he said leading us into the board room where Caitlin was signing her contract
"Hey Caitlin, these are your new roomies" joe said
Caitlin looked up, she took a quick glance at me but then focused her attention on Lia. From what I could see it wasn't a friendly look.
"I'll leave you be to get to know each other" he said before leaving the room
"Hi Caitlin, I'm Sophie"
"Hey Soph, can I call you Soph? I'm sorry to hear about Jill" she said
"Thanks, yeah you can call me Soph" I said which earned a smile from the Australian.
Lia remained silent. She wouldn't have seen Caitlin since last summer. It got so awkward Caitlin eventually had to break the silence
"How's Tabea" Caitlin asked. She surely would have known they weren't together anymore.
Lia was visibly taken back. Caitlin was definitely holding a grudge. Thankfully Lia didn't rise to the dig. "I don't know we aren't together anymore" she said calmly
"Oh I see" Caitlin said
I was keen to turn the attention away from this conversation. "So have you been given a tour yet" I asked
"No not yet" she responded
"Ahh well I'm probably not the best one to give you a tour because I've not been here long. You're lucky Jill isn't here because she gave me my tour and it was dreadful"
"I'm sure you'll do a good job, how is jill?" She asked as we made our way around the building.
I introduced her to various teammates. Along the way we lost Lia, I don't blame her for wanting to disappear because Caitlin was digging into her a little bit.
We regrouped at the car when it was time to go home. We dragged all of Caitlins bags from the building to the car.
"Bloody hell how did you get these all through the airport" I joked
"Don't even ask, I have no idea how I managed it"
Despite being a little frosty with Lia which was to be expected I quite liked Caitlin, I think she will get on quite well with Jill so I'm excited for them to meet.
We pulled into the drive, Lia helped bring the bags in but then coincidentally had a phone call she had to answer. This was curios because I never heard the phone ring but she went upstairs to her room anyway.
We left the bags in the hall and I took Caitlin into the lounge where we found Jill asleep.
"Wake up gorgeous" I said and I shook Jills shoulder.
Jill slowly opened her eyes and had a big stretch. Caitlin stood there awkwardly until Jill brought her into the conversation
"Hello" she said "sorry I can't get up and greet you" she gave off a little laugh which was a better indication of her mood
"That's okay I understand" Caitlin said "I saw the challenge it looked awful"
"It felt awful, I didn't see it coming which is worse"
These two instantly hit it off. Fantastic! This is great because I can see that Caitlin was improving Jills mood.
"Do you drink tea Caitlin?" I asked
"Not especially but I'm keen to embrace British culture" she replied
Jill popped up with "brits are a bit weird, maybe you should reconsider"
"HAHAHAH" I said sarcastically "aren't you hilarious?"
"That's why you love me isn't it?" Jill responded
"You guys are so cute" said Caitlin
