"You sure about this Lynn?" Her dad asks, sitting on the edge of her hospital bed.
"More sure than I have been about anything in months." She nods, "Thanks for coming out to be with me today. I can't wait to be out of pain, and make this move into the new part of my life. Did you hear what doctor Jensen said? I might even get to do some of the things I love again after this." She grins.
"I know, but don't push your body too hard alright? I know she is hopeful for you with this operation, but you don't want to hurt yourself by trying to do too much before you're ready."
"I know. And we both know Zane would never ever let me." She laughs, "He will be all over me about staying on track with recovery, and I don't want to hurt myself further so I will be good, even if it drives me insane."
"Good girl. I'll be here when you're done. And as long as you want me after."
"No dad, I mean stay until I'm out of surgery. But this could take weeks to heal, and I'm not in danger, it should all go smoothly. The surgeon said it could be up to two weeks in the hospital depending on how I heal. You should go home, Zac and Hazel will have me well cared for here. And I'll facetime you everyday okay? I don't want you putting your life on hold anymore for me. I've been enough of a burden over the last year. Please."
"I'll come back if you need anything though, okay?"
"I would expect nothing less from the world's best dad. But please promise me you will head home to Vegas tomorrow or Sunday, back to your life and work. I'm going to be just fine. Better off even. I might finally get to walk for the first time in months." A tear glistens in her eye at the idea.
"Not yet." He chuckles, "Even if it fixes the issues in your right leg, you haven't been walking on your left, and you will have to learn a new balance and—" Zeppelynn laughs, resting her hand over his mouth.
"I know not right away. I know there are a lot of steps, but to even have the option of walking again soon, within a month or two, it's exciting. It feels like I'm finally getting my life back." She sighs, "At least somewhat."
"I'm glad you're so optimistic about this, because the idea of my baby girl having her whole leg amputated is not sitting easy on my heart." He sighs, pulling both of her hands into his and squeezing them tightly.
"I know, but we have tried so many other things. The pain is getting worse not better and it's just at a point that I need to have the pain gone so I can move on with life. Dr. Jensen is as sure as I am if not more so about the procedure. I'm going to be just fine. I'll see you back here in a few hours okay?" she smiles, leaning forward to kiss his stubble covered cheek.
"I'll be here, and Zac might too? He said something about trying to get here after his plans with Hazel. He feels bad he couldn't be here before."
"He's meeting her family, I'm not mad. Haz is the best thing that ever happened to that boy. I'll see him when I'm done."
"He's going to worry about you Z, the two of you are twins from separate wombs." Frank chuckles.
"I know. I love him so much." She laughs, "He's really stepped up to help me through all of this. I will never be able to repay him for that."
"He wouldn't let you if you tried." Both of them turn as there is a knock on the door. Zeppelynn's doctor walking into the room.
"They are ready for you, do you have any last questions before the nurse comes to get your IV set and they take you down the hall to the operating room?" Dr. Jensen asks, her deep red hair pulled into a dutch braid down the middle of her head, blue eyes soft and kind.
"I think I'm okay, just ready to get the show on the road, get rid of the pain, and move on to the next step." Z nods.
"Good. I have full confidence in Dr. Waldram, he is an excellent surgeon and will take perfect care of you. He will relay all information to me, and I will get it back to your dad as we receive it. I will be standing watch over the surgery not involved. Is there anything we can get either of you? Dad, I'm sure this is hard for you too."
"I'm alright, thank you. Just going to sit here and pray for her safety and the surgeon's hands until she is back in this room with me."
"If you do need anything, the nurse at the station outside can get it or alert me to help with anything. I promise, Zeppelynn is going to be just fine."
"Thank you doc." Zeppelynn smiles, resting back in the bed as doctor Jensen leaves, the nurse and med assistant entering quickly to start her IV and prep her.
"Dad, would you like to draw the X on her right leg?" The nurse turns to him, smiling as she offers up the pen.
"What?" Frank frowns, taking the marker anyway.
"We always mark the limb that needs worked on, just to insure accuracy in the OR. Would you like draw a large X on her right thigh?" the nurse smiles kindly.
"Draw me an X dad, right over my wolf." Z laughs, poking the saggy skin that holds the wolf tattoo, one thing she is sad to be losing.
"Maybe on the knee and the wolf, just to be sure they can see it." The nurse chuckles.
"You'll have to do some ink on my ironleg when I get it. To make up for the fact that your wolf is going to be cut off." Zeppelynn smiles sadly, watching her dad mark her leg.
"And write no on her left thigh, just for extra precautions. We want to make no mistakes." the nurse adds, Zeppelynn giggling slightly at the cold touch of the marker tip on her left thigh where she can feel it.
"Alright, we are ready to head down, give her a hug and we will inform you as soon as she is sedated and they have started." the nurse smiles taking the pen back from Frank.
"Don't worry too much dad, I'm going to be just fine." Zeppelynn wraps her arms around his neck, hugging him tightly.
"You better be. I love you so much Zeppelynn, I'll be waiting here when you wake up."
"I love you too." She sighs, squeezing him tightly for one more moment before he steps back, watching as they lift the side rails and roll her bed from the room.
