"Cal, Calum." He turns suddenly, seeing Ashton watching him closely.
"Sorry, what." He shakes his head to clear the fog.
"You okay mate?" Ashton frowns, "You've been kind of quiet for the last week or so."
"I'm always quiet Ash." Calum rolls his eyes.
"Not like this."
"Fine." He sighs, deciding it might be nice to get it off his chest. "I saw Zeppelynn a few days before he headed home."
Whatever Ashton was expecting it clearly wasn't that, choking and sputtering on the water he had just taken a large swallow of, trying not to disturb the other occupants of the flight as he clears his throat. "Zeppelynn? Where? Did you talk to her?"
"No, she was at the physical therapy clinic I go to. You remember the hot therapist you told me I should hit on when you took me to therapy last summer?" Calum sighs, resting the crown of his head back against the seat, "Hazel."
"Ya, still thinking you should try to get with her. She was cute, and nice." Ashton nods.
"She's Zeppelynn's therapist. I don't know what all Z is doing for therapy, I just saw Hazel pushing her in a wheelchair out of the room when I got there to meet Issac, I only saw her from behind, and her profile when she turned to look at Hazel I guess. But she didn't see me, and I just sort of sat there shocked until Issac was ready to work on my shoulders with me. It really messed with me, seeing her laugh and happy looking. The last image I have of her was her telling me she hated me through tears so I would leave and let her break up with me." Calum sighs, dropping his head into his hands.
"She seemed happy?" Ashton asks quietly, pity in his eyes as he looks at his best friend.
"Ya. I'm still writing fucking songs about how much I miss her, and I'm still not over the relationship, but at least she's happy. She found a way to be happy despite her physical limitations. I don't know, I got destructive, started thinking about what could have been if I'd met her now that she's happy and this is the new her. What it could be like if she hadn't pushed me away. All that."
"You can't think like that Cal, it's toxic. If you want to know what it would be like with Z now, you have to approach Z now."
"What if she yells at me to go away again..? Or worse what if she doesn't."
"That makes no sense Cal."
"I know. But what if she is happy to see me and I realize I'm not happy to see her. What if I'm actually angry about what happened and not just sad." Calum sighs.
"You are all up in your head mate. You saw her once, across a room, from behind. Don't let it ruin things for you. You'll figure it out, and what is supposed to happen will happen." Ashton smiles softly.
"It just felt like a sign or something. I mean, we finished Kill My Time and then two days later I saw her. I'm almost anxious for my appointment with Isaac in a few days so I can maybe see her again."
"Just. Be careful." Ashton sighs, "I don't want you to spiral out of control again like you were after she broke it off, I don't want you to be that sad or hostile again."
"I'll try." Calum nods, leaning his head back as he glances at the small airplane on the screen in front of him, six more hours until they touch down in LA.

"You know every time I have to go to the hospital for any length of stay I miss this stupid shop more and more." Z sighs, rolling herself towards where Zac is working on a tattoo for Mitchy.
"You seem to be rather cheery considering the last time I saw you you had another leg." Mitchy laughs.
"She's been a whole fucking lot happier since they cut that thing off." Zac scoffs, throwing a look Zeppelynn's way.
"IT HURT ALL THE TIME!" She throws her hands in the air, "I couldn't do shit with the pain always interfering. So ya, I'm happier without it. Plus now I have the chance to actually walk again in my life. That's a huge plus."
"You're going to learn how to walk again?" Mitchy grins.
"Ya, eventually. I have to let the incision heal fully, and get comfortable with a prosthetic, it's a process but I get a peg leg and then I can walk." Z grins.
"A peg leg?" Zac laughs, "More like a bionic leg."
"That's sick." Mitchy laughs.
"I'm going to make Zac draw cool shit on it since I can't actually tattoo it like the rest of my body."
"I can't wait to see it when you do get it."
"I'm sure you will. I'll be everywhere as soon as I can walk again. I'll finally have freedom again."
"I'll finally have freedom again." Zac jokes, "Right now I'm her slave."
"Hey, I do just as much shit for her as you do." Zane calls from the chair to their left.
"Hazel does more than either of you. And Ruby has done a ton too." Z rolls her eyes.
"There are limits we just don't cross. Like helping you bath, or shit." Zac rolls his eyes.
"Ya, I'm so glad you fell in love with my physical therapist, it makes my life a hell of a lot easier." Zeppelynn laughs.
"Get better so I can stop sharing her with you." Zac glares.
"You think my healing will lessen the amount of time Haz and I hang out? No, we will just get to do fun things instead of working on healing me."
"She's right Zac, just accept it." Levi laughs, "Ruby too. The three of them really are just a small pack. If Zane ever settles down we are going to be screwed, could you imagine four of them."
"Hey, could be five. If I get a girlfriend too." Z smirks.
"Na, you need to find some guy who can be my best friend. Since my girlfriend is your best friend." Zac smirks, "Then when you steal my girl I can steal your boy."
"Aw. Wouldn't that just be the cutest shit." Zane rolls his eyes.
"Says the most single person I've ever met in my life." Levi laughs.
"I'm not searching, when she walks through that door someday I'll just know. I don't mind being single." Zane shrugs, "Lynn on the other hand is much too cool to be single and needs to work on that."
"I've been a little busy." She rolls her eyes, not overly interested in talking about her love life, especially in front of her ex's friend.
"Mitchy, you got any single friends she could meet?" Zac ignores her, grinning at the tattooed man in the chair.
"Um," Mitchy glances between Zane and Zeppelynn uncomfortably, "My bandmates, but they aren't really her type, and um ya another but that's not a good idea."
"Why did it get awkward?" Zac glances up suddenly, looking between the three of them.
"I think I'll try another matchmaker Zac, thanks though, Mitchy did well last time but it was an accident then." Zeppelynn says, her voice nervous and irritated at the same time, rolling her chair backwards until she can turn and roll off towards Ruby at the front counter.
