"What are you doing Zeppelynn?" Frank knocks on the open bedroom door, seeing Z laid out on the bed with headphones over her ears and her tablet propped beside her.
"Torturing myself." She sighs, sitting herself up to face him.
"And how are you doing that?" He half chuckles.
"Calum's band is doing a live stream tonight to listen to their new album, and he told me he wrote two songs about me." She sighs.
"And you feel the need to see what those songs are?" He cocks an eyebrow, leaning against the doorway.
"Well there is literally one called Wildflower. So I'm betting that is one of them, but I want to know what it says, what lyrics he wrote and the emotion behind it. It came out a couple days ago but I haven't been able to convince myself to listen to it yet. And ya... I want to know which of the others is about us, or me." She sighs.
"Try not to completely mess yourself up." Frank nods, "But I'll leave you to it."
"Thanks dad." She nods, falling back against her back and readjusting the headphones over her ears as she reengages with the wall of Ashton's house as Old Me plays. A song she had heard a few times in the last month, and definitely not one he had written about her.
Zeppelynn tenses as Teeth finishes it's play through, knowing Wildflower is the next song on the album tracklist. Knowing without a doubt this song was written about her, but at what point in the last year, and at what emotional state Calum was in is a different story, and one she is nervous to discover.
She shouldn't be surprised, but for some reason she is as Calum's voice rings through her headphones instead of Luke's. Focusing like her life depends on it to the lyrics, her stomach doing flips and her throat growing tight as she realizes the song is about an abundance of feelings. Realizing this song is about all the good Calum had to say about her. Realizing this must have been the song he wrote beside her hospital bed while he waited for her to wake up.
Her eyes burning as she listens again to just how much he felt for her, how much love he was willing to easily hand over to her, only to have her ruin it all.
"Alright, well I'm going to hand the instagram live over to Calum for the next bit, it's been fun listening with you and I hope you enjoy the rest of the album. I would highly recommend Cal listen to Wildflower again with you all so you can appreciate just how amazing his vocals are in that song. It's truly his song, and he owns every bit of it. I love you all, thank you for being here to listen with us, and I hope you continue to listen to CALM far beyond tonight, and you love it. Bye." Ashton speaks up after the song before the live ends, a new one starting only moments later.
"Hey guys. It's Calum here." Z has to close her eyes for a moment, seeing his face even shadowed and slightly pixelated hurts, the sound of his voice no help to that. "Um, I'm listening to the album on Vinyl so let's see if I can even manage to go back a single song to appease Ashton's wishes tonight. And while we are at it, why don't we get Michael in this chat with us?"
Watching Calum banter back and forth with Michael puts a small smile on Z's face, that is until they fall quiet, listening to the song again. Calum's face falling slightly as he leans back against the couch, clearly lost in thought as the song plays, Michael's eyes watching him carefully from his own screen. To anyone else watching it may seem like nothing, just both of them listening, but Z can see the way Michael is watching out for Calum and his emotions, the way the song is affecting Calum and his need to hide that emotion. And it tears through Zeppelynn's heart like a knife.
In part she checks out for the next song, laying on her back as the soft melody plays through her headphones, knowing it isn't a song about her. There is no way he would have written this song about her after she tore his heart out. The song following Best Years makes her nervous at first, but it doesn't take long for her to know it isn't about her, that it isn't the song written from Calum's pain. Lover of Mine also not her song, though she does feel as if she could sing part of it to him, that she feels drawn to the lyrics in her relation to Calum if only she had the chance.
It's during the next song that her blood suddenly runs cold. The lyrics of Thin White Lies and Calum's voice in the chorus causing her airway to grow thick. It could definitely be her song, the song he wrote when he was hurt, when it seemed like all the things they had promised each other in New York were lies on her end. Hot tears leaking from her eyes as she listens to the song, convincing herself that it is the second song he written for her.
She stays numb through the last two songs, barely registering that the live ends as she lays on her back, eyes unfocused as she stares upward towards the ceiling. How could she have done it, why did she do it, losing the best thing that had ever happened to her. Pushing away the person she is now convinced she will love more than anyone in her lifetime. The person who would have been her perfect match the way she had been taught her parents had been for each other. She had her soulmate, and she pushed him away over a little bit of fear...
She's started from her pity party as her phone starts to ring beside her, turning slowly to see who is calling just in time for it to go to voicemail. Shocked when she sees Calum's name on the screen as it clears, only to have a second call come through moments later.
Shakily she reaches over to grab the phone, unsure what to expect but refusing to let fear keep her from the chance to talk to him again.
