Chapter Eight

You woke up in Steve's arms as the light filtered through. Steve was still asleep, his hair ruffled as it fell in his eyes, you kissed his cheek to wake him up and he stirred slightly. "Hi Sweetheart," said Steve, in his deep morning voice. You tried not to kiss him. "Good morning," oop now you had been sent over the edge. You cupped Steve's face and kissed him passionately. He kissed you back but quickly pulled away, "I better go train,"

"Come onnn," you complained, as Steve got out of bed. "Whyyyy," Steve chuckled slightly but ignored your complaints to come back to bed. "Steve," you said, patting his empty spot in the bed, "Come back and keep me warm,"

Steve laughed and came over, he kissed your forehead, "I'll see you later baby," he said, "Okay, I have to go," Steve left your room, leaving you alone. You sighed, annoyed that he'd left, before getting out of bed and getting ready to train. You decided that afterwards you would check on Bucky and see if he was okay after the whole not date thing.

Once you were ready you headed down to the training room, you smiled at Steve but said nothing since the others were there. "So you wanna throw some punches?" asked Nat, you agreed.

After some intense training, you headed back to your room. Before you went inside, you noticed Bucky come out his room. His eyes were bloodshot, his hair scraped back into a bun and he was wearing joggers and a hoodie. "Hey Buck," you asked, "you alright, after yesterday and stuff. I'm sorry,"

"Fine," he responded bluntly before walking past you. That was weird. You went into your room and got ready for the day. You had originally planned on watching Netflix all day but once you arrived at the kitchen you realised the team had other plans. Maps of the city were on the table, and there was a team debate going on loudly. Apart from Bucky, who was sat in the corner of the room with headphones in, ignoring everyone.

You sat next to Steve, holding his hand under the table, "What we doing?" you asked the team.

"We're planning a hike," said Steve, "Care to join us," aaah he was so adorable wtf. You nodded and listened as they discussed routes. Tony and Bruce backed out after five minutes. Sam and Nat had agreed. Wanda and Vision had a date lined up so they left to get ready. Clint said he was too tired. So now you, Steve, Nat and Sam were left round the table, and Bucky was sat in the corner. "Are you coming Bucky?" asked Steve, you watched as Bucky pulled out his earphones and looked over to you. "Wanna join us?"

"No I'm good," he said, "Have fun," he walked out the room, and you internally cursed yourself for making things weird. You gave Steve a glance before following after Bucky. "What?" he asked you bluntly, "You need a date or?"

You rolled your eyes, "Bucky stop," you said, "Are you just gonna be like this now?" Bucky ignored you, looking at the floor, "Will you please come on this hike, how is it going to be that we don't get along anymore, we can't just do this," you said, you were slightly angry but more just upset that you were gonna lose your friendship with him.

"So I'm just gonna pretend that weird thing didn't happen," he asked, "This isn't a basis of a friendship Y/n, it's not a friendship, so what is this, what are we?" now it was your turn to look at the floor, "Look I'll be your friend, keep my feelings to myself, if you can honestly tell me you don't think that there's anything here, that he's giving you everything I can, everything you want, and more, okay?"

"He can," you said quietly, you didn't even know, yes you liked Steve and he was perfect. But there was also something there with Bucky you just didn't want to admit it yet, or at all if that was an option, "Can we be friends now?"

"I'm gonna go get ready," he said, "Meet you all downstairs in a bit, okay?" he walked away.

You climbed the hill, getting bored of this hike already. You wanted to turn back because you were tired and not in the mood. All you could think about was cuddling Steve in bed while watching Netflix. "This is boring," you complained, dropping back to walk in pace with Bucky. Instead of being ahead with Sam, Steve and Nat.

"It's Steve," said Bucky, "He is boring," you laughed. "He's so different from the forties ya know?" Bucky continued, "Like I'm pretty sure he's dating someone but he doesn't talk about them, but like he would never ask someone out back then, and he would tell me about girls he thought were pretty, but know there's just some i don't know, it's not really the same," you nodded, "But I guess it's different now, sorry for ranting,"

"No it's fine," you responded, realising that you were dropping far behind the others. You were kind of distracted by the whole dating someone. He meant you right? Like yeah. Must be you. "Why do you think he's dating someone?" you asked. Okay so kind of a jealous girlfriend mood.

Bucky sighed, "I don't know, I think for the past week maybe," responded Bucky, you felt relieved, it was you. He wasn't cheating. Not that he would be. He literally just asked you to trust him and now you didn't. Okay cool. "Maybe I'm wrong, I guess he has another best friend now," he gestured to Sam and Nat.

"Come on you're irreplaceable," you said, nudging his arm, "Come on we can be best friends," why did this feel like flirting? It wasn't.

Bucky laughed, "It's a deal," the weird fight you had been in earlier felt forgotten. "Come on lets catch up with the others," you jogged to catch up with them. Steve smiled brightly at you, which made your heart flutter.

You finished the hike, and headed back to your room. After showering and putting on some comfy clothes you snuggled up in bed. But it felt empty without Steve. You wanted him to hold you again. You tried turning on your TV but were bored. So you rested your head against the pillow and drifted off into sleep.
