Despite the hardship that had been last night, your lack of sleep and silent crying had not affected your mood. And so you arrived at the kitchen at 8am, wearing your favourite jeans and your Nike cropped jumper. It was colder than you had expected but you made a latte to warm you up. Most of the team were gathered around. All eating breakfasts or having little conversations. You noticed that Bucky was absent. That was good, you didn't want to look at him right now.

"Hey y/n, do you have plans tonight?" Tony asked you as you started making waffle batter.

You raised your eyebrows. "I do not have plans tonight but that is contrary to change depending on what you ask me to do," Tony was not giving anything away, "and as long as it's not a stupid team movie night or whatever the fuck a Christmas version of that is,"

"That's a lot of terms and conditions. What's going on with you?" he asked, but you just ignored him. "Look Pepper is refusing to go this charity ball, and everyone else on the team has plans, so will you be my date?" a night with rich old people didn't sound great, "there's free alcohol and they give out diamond necklaces for entry donations,"

"Fine I will go but of course for the charity," you smiled, "we're wearing red, dark red, don't be late and pick me up in that fancy orange Audi you drive around, okay?" he raised his eyebrows, "For the charity we want to make a good impression,"

You drizzled syrup over your waffles and put some strawberries on top. Just as you were about to sit down, Bucky came in. "See you tonight," you said to Tony, before picking up your waffle and leaving by the stairs so you didn't have to pass Bucky as he walked out the elevator.

"Just walk right past me," he muttered as you walked past him, you rolled your eyes before making a point of slamming the door. "I have the worst headache," Bucky added as he poured coffee into a mug. Steve, Sam and Tony were sending him death stares. Bucky was confused, all he had said was about his headache. He hasn't even seen them since midday yesterday when they finished putting trees up. "What's up?"

The guys, especially Sam, continued with their death stare. "Seriously," said Sam, "you think we wouldn't find out what you did to y/n? Come on man what the fuck is wrong with you?"

"What?" Bucky was more than confused. He wasn't confused that you went crying to someone else when you had found yourself in a problem that you had created. For the record, you had ended it for 'space'. What was he supposed to wait for you forever?

Tony shook his head. "You wrote her some heartfelt note that was full of shit and let her walk in on you with someone else? That's so cold and heartless," Bucky was waiting for something else. Did you tell them that you were over? That he hadn't fought for you because he thought it was what you wanted. He was so stupid. But on the upside you hadn't said something yet.

Bucky picked up his coffee and left, not wanting to defend his side of the story. When, to be fair, he didn't really have one. All he knew was that he fucked up and lost you.

You pulled the zipper up on the side of your dress. It was dark red and covered in sparkly diamonds. You were wearing dark red velvet heels and gold jewellery. Your hair was curled, and you did some fancy eyeliner with dark red lipstick.

You went upstairs to the kitchen first. Sam was talking about his trip to see his sister, and the long journey. Wanda and Vision were sat with each other, Nat was there too and so was Bruce. "Oh my god you look amazing," Nat squealed as you walked into the kitchen. You twirled around and smiled. "You are going to be the prettiest there,"

"Get a photo of me by the tree please?" you asked Nat as you handed her your phone. Bucky walked into the kitchen after his workout looking for water, but instead his eyes fell to you. You were posing in front of the tree, one hand holding a white Gucci purse and the other was resting on your upper thigh. He noticed your smile, and the way the fairy lights on the tree made your dress sparkle. He loved your smile and the way your eyes glittered as you did. He leaned onto the kitchen counter, watching you as you posed with one hand on your hip as a joke. He was completely and utterly in awe of you. "Okay okay I have to go," you said, taking your phone from Nat. "Have fun with Steveeee," you made fun of Nat as you got into the elevator. The last thing you saw as the elevator doors closed was Bucky staring at you, his eyes shining as he looked at you.

The funny thing was, you weren't even mad about it.

Tony was waiting for you by the orange Audi, a dark red rose to match his dark red tie in his hand. "Aw," you took the rose from his hand as he opened the door for you. "I can't wait for tonight, finally I have something other to think about,"

The event room was gorgeous, many tables filled with rich old people sat around them. You and Tony were in the entry queue. He wanted to skip the line but you reminded him of the diamonds for the Charity. Once you had received the sparkly, diamond necklace you and Tony sat down at your table. Glasses of champagne and fancy little 'foods' were on the table. Huge bouquets of pink and white roses were on the table , and all around you people were chatting and laughing loudly.

"This is a different scene to what I'm used to, I have to admit Stark, your parties are almost as good as this," he chuckled, pulling a checkbook from his blazer pocket. "We were supposed to bring money? I have five dollars in my phone case," you whispered across to him.

He laughed, "No your just here to look pretty, stay here and drink the champagne," Tony got up and left and started chatting with some people, who were probably not as rich as him but definitely older.

You were the youngest one here, by far. And adding your past to that made you feel completely left alone. The first time you had felt like this, Bucky had too. You were in the mall and you were walking together as the avengers took photos with kids. It felt so long ago when it was barely six months. You had grown to love him so quickly and he had ripped your heart right out.

You only wished you could go back and change it all.
