Two years before - When the whole Vampire Debacle with Elena started

After falling through the veil in the Department of Mysteries, the last thing Sirius heard was his goddaughter Harri calling out his name in despair. Realizing he was likely falling to his death, Sirius hoped Harri and Remus would live good lives.

A voice called his name.

"Sirius Black, you have been brought from a different land to a place that needs your help. Here, you won't have to hide; you can do magic freely. Another person will join you in the future. She will be the leader. You won't retain all your memories, as some things are best forgotten. All will be well."

Sirius landed in a forest on the darkest night. He decided to look for any nearby humans. Following a trail, he reached the main town area, marked by a clock tower. He saw people leaving a bar and thought it might be a good place to gather information and find a place to sleep.

"What can I get for you?" a voice behind the bar called out.

"I'm sorry to bother you, but I have no money and need help. I was kidnapped while walking in a city and ended up in the middle of the woods," Sirius fabricated a story. He couldn't reveal he was a wizard from another timeline.

People in the bar looked up, feeling pity. An old couple, Mara and Anthony Taylor, decided to help the stranger who reminded them of their deceased son. They approached him.

"You're welcome to stay with us until you find your feet. We have an antique shop and could use some help, as we're not getting any younger."

Sirius was surprised by their generosity. "Sure, that would be great. I'll help out as much as I can."

Months passed, and Sirius lived with Mara and Anthony, running the antique shop and doing odd jobs for the townspeople. They didn't know he used magic to excel at these tasks. The people of Mystic Falls grew fond of Sirius Black.

During the Elena Gilbert drama and other supernatural events, Sirius kept a watchful eye. He only intervened when Damon Salvatore was about to kill Mason. Putting Mason under a sleeping spell, Sirius took him home and bluntly told him that his actions were helping no one, including himself. Mason explained that he loved Katherine Pierce and promised her the moonstone. Sirius nearly slapped him, saying no love should demand such sacrifices and that Katherine was playing him.

Mason opened up about his werewolf side, and Sirius shared how he left his best friend, a werewolf, behind. He explained that life was hard, and Mason seemed ready to give it up for a moonstone.

After listening to Sirius and thinking about his nephew, who lost his father in a fire, Mason decided to do right by his family and returned to California. He tried to convince Tyler's mother, Carol, to bring Tyler back, but she was content running the town after her husband's death. Mason ensured Tyler knew everything and planned to return to California if things got complicated in Mystic Falls.
