chapter 3

"Mommy who was that?"

"Richard, I used to work for him. He's grandma's friend."

"He seemed nice."

"Yeah, he is"

Meredith waited at the red light and checked her phone, she saw two missed calls from Richard, one from Regan, and four from Mark. Why was Mark calling her? She called Regan back but she didn't answer.

"Hey Regan, I just finished signing papers for the whole Ellis situation so now I'm headed home. I should be back in Boston by tomorrow morning so you can make that new pancake recipe you found for us. I'll see you soon." Meredith said in a voicemail she left for Regan.

The light turned green so Meredith kept driving, she turned left onto a street and as she neared the end of the street looked for cars so she could turn right. There were no cars on the other streets so she slowly started turning since they were driving through a neighborhood. As she turned she heard another car speeding from another street that led to hers and before she could process anything or react the car hit the front left side of their car. Meredith's car hit a street lamp and caused it to fall on the front of the car, crushing Meredith and the passenger side of the car. Everything went black and Meredith smelled smoke and opened her eyes to see another car right next to her and Mia crying. Meredith tried turning around to check on her but she felt a sharp pain in her abdomen, she reached for the car handle to grip something but it wasn't there. The car door wasn't there anymore, some of it was stabbing her abdomen and the rest of it gone, she looked around and saw glass everywhere and she saw Mia crying in the mirror.

"Mia? Are you okay? Does it hurt anywhere?"

Mia shook her head and looked around, she had a small cut on her forehead probably from the glass and a bruise on her cheek. Meredith was still worried about Mia instead of herself, people came running out of their houses and the driver that hit them also came out and tried helping but nobody let him.

"Somebody call 911!" A woman yelled

Meredith tried to take a deep breath but that hurt more, she tried not to yell or scream because she didn't want to scare Mia but it hurt so badly she passed out. The other driver had a broken arm and a deep forehead laceration but he was walking around and answering questions. The paramedics got there and put a neck brace around Meredith and took Mia out of the car. A piece of the car door was penetrating Meredith's abdomen and they couldn't take it out so they had to wait for surgeons to arrive and assess her injuries before they could take her out. Meredith was loosing blood.

At the hospital Richard ran into the hospital and went to find Bailey.

"Bailey!"

"Chief?"

"I just ran into Meredith, she was visiting Ellis!"

"Is she coming back? What did she say?" Bailey asked

"She said that-" Richard was interrupted by his pager

"There's an accident and they can't extract one of the drivers, they need surgeons."

"Who's on the field team?"

"Hunt, Bailey, Shepherd, and Hahn! There's a patient in an MVC that needs help, the paramedics will take you there in an ambulance got it?"

"Yes sir" They all said as they got ready to get into the ambulance

Bailey got ready and started walking out when she ran into Hahn.

"Have you talked to Yang?"

"About?"

"Grey's back in Seattle"
