“Madeline-Grace, sweetheart, we are going to put a mattress in our room for the next few nights so you can be in with us in case you need anything. I am going to carry you up the stairs because the wheelchair will be too hard to get up the stairs. Is that Ok?” Liam asked.
“Yes sir. Thank you,” MG said quietly. They were sitting on the couch together while Louis and Harry were putting Jace to bed. Niall was sitting on the floor wrapping Louis and Harry’s presents. MG couldn’t do much because she couldn’t walk, so most of the time; she was just sitting on the couch with her father and talking.
“Dad, do you have a job?”
“Yes I do. I took some time off when we adopted you and then you got injured, so my boss gave me all that time off. Now it is Christmas.”
“Oh. Ok.”
There was a long moment of silence and then MG spoke quietly.
“Thank you for adopting me. I love you.” She slid her hand into Liam’s and he squeezed it.
“I love you, too baby.”
“I love you too MG,” Niall said.
“I’m sorry I got hurt.”
“Stop apologizing baby. I love you and you are Ok. That’s all that matters.”
They fell silent for a while before Harry and Louis came downstairs. Niall had put the presents under the tree and now everyone had a few presents to open on Christmas.
“Madeline-Grace?” Louis asked, sitting beside her.
“Hmm?” she said, with her eyes still closed. Her head was on Liam’s shoulder.
“I have a lot of sisters and they are all gonna come for Christmas dinner. Charlotte is 24 and has a daughter, Gracie; who is almost 1. Felicite is 22 and has no kids and is not engaged. Daisy and Phoebe are 19. They will all be coming for dinner. Ok?”
“Ok. That’s a lot of sisters. Are Daisy and Phoebe twins?” She opened her eyes.
“Yes. Liam, are your sisters coming?”
“Nicola is, but not Ruth. Nicola is 31, MG, she has 2 kids and a husband whom are coming.”
“Me brother Greg is coming with Theo and his wife Denise. Theo is almost 9,” Niall added.
“Liam, how old are Nicola’s kids?” MG asked.
“Let’s see. She has 2 girls, Samantha and Emily. Samantha is 9 and Emily is 4.”
