The next day at school was a hard one for Madeline-Grace and Liam. Madeline-Grace wanted to see her dad to make sure he was Ok, but she had classes and wouldn’t see him until after lunch. Liam wanted to see Niall but Liam was at work so he couldn’t. Niall was at work, after promising Liam he would take it easy. Louis had driven them to school, but Emily and her mom was taking them home.
Finally, the last hour of the day came. Emily and Madeline-Grace had music class with Liam. All the students asked him what had happened. He told them he had been in a plane crash. He said he was fine.
“How is he really doing?” Emily whispered to Madeline-Grace.
“Well, he can’t really get up stairs and he’s worried sick about Niall. I dunno, it seems that he is doing Ok. In the hospital I heard him say some stuff and he might still be upset but I really don’t know.”
“What happened to Niall?”
“Stitches and broken ribs.”
“Yikes.” They turned back to the front of the class and listened to the lesson.
“Emily, I think your mother is going to drive us home.” Liam said as the girls were walking out.
“Yes sir. After we get our backpacks we will come by and get you to go to the car.”
“Ok thank you sweetheart.” Liam sat down at his desk and started working on the next lesson plan.
“He seems fine,” Emily said. They were at their lockers.
“Yeah, he really does. I don’t know though. He seems different. Last night we fell asleep on the couch together and slept there the whole night. He usually is awake and we go up to our rooms.”
“Uh huh. I understand. Hey I think my mom said we were picking Niall up on our way home?”
“Oh, we might be. I thought Lou and Jace were going to pick him up but maybe not. I’ll ask Dad.” They went into his room so they could all walk out to Mrs. Joseph’s car together.
“Hey Dad,” Madeline-Grace said.
“Yes baby?”
“Are we picking Niall up on the way home?”
“I think so. Why?”
“I was just wondering ‘cause I thought Lou and Jace were picking Niall up.”
“No, we are. Ni and I talked this morning. Lou and Jace were going to go to the park or something and we are going to pick him up.”
“Ok. Let’s go to the car Mr. Payne.”
“Emily, call me Liam when we aren’t in class please.”
“Yes sir.”
