Chapter 1- secret technology
Part 1
It was the middle of the night. Riding on a black motorcycle in the middle of Japan was Izuka. He was wearing usual winter clothes over his suit as a way to blend in, since it was now November. The request came through a few hours ago; to find and eliminate the rumoured developers of robotic life support suits, called exo-bodies. If this technology were to be discovered by the public, or anyone not aware of the underground organisation which Izuka was a part of, then a demand for its finalisation would arise. Technology such as this would allow people to live longer, and so increase the human population. The reason for the existence of the units was to keep the population steady by keeping breakthrough technology a secret until its release was deemed as 'not hazardous'.
Each unit was made up of three parts: a spear, a lance and a spyglass. The spear was for pure physical strength. The lance was more for personnel combat and tactics. The spyglass was mainly for recon, but did have tactical applications.
(Where is it? It should be around here, but where?)
Suddenly, he received a call through his helmet. He stopped his bike and tapped the side of his helmet to allow a familiar voice to come through.
"Izuka, where are you? Keisaku and I are approaching the target now!" The voice was trying to keep to a whisper, but did not seem to be doing a very good job at it.
"Mirai....... Sorry, but I'm having some trouble finding the warehouse." He said honestly.
"We don't know where it is either. Our source gave us the name of one of the developers, so we're tailing him to find it."
"So, where are you?"
"We're in a small sewer pipe right now. Guess this place really is secret. Perhaps they've heard of us."
"Hey, loudmouth, the target's heading to the surface." Keisaku's voice cut in on their conversation somehow, causing Mirai to fall silent.
(Guess I'll hear from them once they've found the warehouse.)
Izuka readied himself to leave when he heard a noise. The manhole beside him was being lifted from bellow.
(Could it be......?)
Izuka silently pushed his bike away slightly, then stood above the manhole with his gun pointed down at it. Judging from the movement of the cover, he positioned himself behind where the person exiting would be facing. He continued to watch as the person clambered out of the sewers and into the building before him.
"What a dumb ass. He didn't even check if anyone was watching him." Seconds later, a pair of silver headphone arose from the hole, followed by a long red ponytail. "What took you so long?" Izuka said jokingly to the pair.
"What's with the helmet? Afraid of getting shot in the face?" Mirai jabbed back with a retort that mocked the very thing that made him a member of the unit.
"I can dodge any bullet they fire at me. A crashed vehicle, however........" Izuka removed his helmet, allowing his hair to breath. His dark blue locks neatly drifted to chin level, swaying slightly from the light breeze. He placed his helmet onto the bike and spoke to Keisaku.
"So is this the place?"
"It appears so." The three examined the building. From the outside, it appeared to be an abandoned two story warehouse, left alone for so long that the moss and ivy were growing over the entrance. It made them wonder why it had been left alone for what looked like years.
"You two go ahead."
"?" Keisaku was confused. This one time, Izuka wanted to see his eyes, just to know what he looked like right now. Needing no words to prompt him, Izuka continued.
"That guy didn't look around when he exited the sewers, leading me to think he knew he was being followed. He knows you two were tailing him, but not about me. So, you two go in, then signal me when I'm needed." He seemed not to notice that the word he should've used was 'if' not 'when'.
Mirai stepped back. "It seems dodging bullets isn't your only skill.........."
The three of them turned to face the large building that was apparently used to develop technology that the public was not allowed.
"Shall we?" Keisaku and Mirai walked toward the door.
