Between the lines 1
Somewhere, a figure clad in black spoke into a small microphone inside a van.
"Primary observation off the units is complete. Stages five to nine have been completed, leaving us only a short time until we are ready to move." The figure reported to whoever was on the other end of the microphone.
"..........." Silence lasted for a few seconds. "...........stage ten will commence in exactly one day from now." The voice that came through had obviously been modified.
"Understood. In the meantime, I will move out to England. Following the movement of Tsubachi Izuka, a large number of cleaners are being sent after him." This character was, technically, a member of the cleanup crew. Normally, cleaners would wear black gas masks and infrared goggles, both to hide their identities and to be ready for dangerous conditions.
".............make sure you are not found out." This was not said kindly or sarcastically. It was merely said, more like an order.
"Master, as a cleaner, I am ignored by the higher ups and by the units. Officially, I do not exist."
"Even so," suddenly, the voice gave a quick answer, "losing you would be a drawback in our movements."
"Whatever you say." The character disconnected the conversation, put on their mask and goggles, then left the van.
Soon, the plan would be put in motion.
For now, they had to travel to Britain along with a hundred or so other cleaners.
Meanwhile, another cleaner pushed himself off the side of the van and in the same direction, consciously keeping his distance from the person before him.
He had heard everything, but he couldn't exactly do anything about it at this point. If he attacked this cleaner, he may be seen as violent and killed by the others. And with no evidence against this figure, he could only observe.
