Part 5
The warehouse in Japan looked exactly the same as it did several hours ago. Inside was a mechanical humanoid robot examining a large, half destroyed piece of technology know as an 'exo-body'.
Not too far away were two girls playing poker. It seemed that one of them had at one point gone out to get a deck of cards and some poker chips.
By the looks of things, the girl with the long eastern sword was winning quite happily.
The slightly younger girl with her hair tied into a long red ponytail seemed frustrated at how magnificently she was losing.
"How's the analysis going?" The boy in headphones, Keisaku, had at last returned from England.
"Almost done. Five minutes, I'd say." A voice of a young man came from the robot. The body made no effort to face Keisaku, so it must've been on auto analyse or something.
"What happened in England?" Asked Mirai, who also made no effort to face Keisaku.
"Robots, Izuka, the higher ups and a turn on the harmony cube." He said simply.
"Aww, you got a turn on the cube? I should've gone.........." Mirai moaned.
"Things went fine without you. Besides, how would YOU fight robots?"
"I.........would've thought of something............"
"Even the annoying brat Haruke managed to destroy one and wound another." He said, putting yet another nail in the coffin.
"If I could perfect the functions of my box, I could easily render all those robots immobile."
"IF you could do that. If you could, you'd have done it by now. You need the harmony cube, don't you?"
"U-ummm........"
"But to do that, you would've needed to fight the robots. It's akin to fighting the last boss before the first level."
The last nail was in the coffin.
"I have no combat ability............." Her shoulders fell and her eyes became teary.
"I-it's okay Mirai-chan. Your skills lie elsewhere. Your unit would be nothing without you! Actually, I'd prefer you over that little rat Haruke."
"And that's why she's with us, not you."
"Shut it, blind boy!"
"By the way-" the girl with the sword, Yuriko, turned her attention back to the dejected girl who now spoke. "-four aces~" she sang, revealing her hand to Yuriko.
Unable to move, she remembered how much she had put in.
All in.
She looked at her own hand in desperation.
Nothing of use. She had been utterly defeated.
She sat sobbing with her knees to her face.
"It's okay Yui-chan. Your skills lie elsewhere." Said Mirai, practically raking in all of the poker chips.
(What a boomerang.)
"By the way," Mirai began, turning her head away from the dejected girl (Yuriko this time) "what's that thing on your back? You never said what it did."
Keisaku glanced over his shoulder at the strange backpack-like thing on his back. "This?" He asked for confirmation whilst pointing with his thumb.
When Mirai nodded, he smiled.
"I call them 'arch-angel wings'." At the end of his declaration, two brilliant wings, about two meters long, spread out from his back. The brilliant structures were made from light, and did not seem to fit the usual description of 'wings'.
They were almost 2 dimensional. They did not curve at any point. These beautiful structures of light looked like a pair of wings drawn on paper, with 3D effects added.
"What do they do? Can you fly?"
"No. Although I really want to. I'm almost there, just a few adjustments to the calculations."
"What do they do if not allow flight?"
The wings withdrew themselves back into keisaku's back. "They accelerate my falling rate by heating the air bellow me, and forcing it above me. I can actually break terminal velocity." He explained matter-of-fact-ly.
"I want to see them again!"
He sighed at her seeming to not listen to anything beyond 'accelerate my falling rate'. Nevertheless, he obliged to her request and, once more, the pure wings of light spread out.
"These things drain a lot of battery though........." If he was not careful with his usage, he could wind up unable to even use his claws.
"Beautiful!!!" A strange shout, no, scream, assaulted the ears of everyone. Even Tatsuro turned his head in their direction to find the cause. Despite the robotic body having no face, displeasure could still be sensed from it.
Yuriko, the obvious source of the scream, ran up to Keisaku and stared into his light wings.
"I want wings too!!"
"Erm.....please don't stare. It's the same as staring directly at sunlight."
She ignored him and reached out her hand slightly.
"Idiot!" His wings retracted at, well, the speed of light. "That's the same intensity as my claws! It'll melt your hand!" Yuriko merely stared at Keisaku in reaction.
"But I wanted.........to................" She collapsed into a heap on the floor.
"?" At a loss for words, Keisaku turned to Mirai.
"She must just be tired. We've been playing poker since we got here. Non stop!"
"Almost an entire day!?"
"It took that long to put my strategy in place!"
"Not a good strategy if it takes several hours........."
"Shut up! I won! You hear me? I! Won!"
"I hear you. I hear you! So how much did you win?"
"I.............we never settled how much each chip was worth..........." She, too, collapsed into the floor. "I have no idea how much I've won! The whole thing'll probably be called off too! My money!!!" She clutched her head in her hands and screamed.
"Don't we earn a ridiculous amount of money anyway?"
"I.........." She froze completely. "Shut up!" And with that, she vanished. It was likely, no, definitely her teleportation in action.
Within a few minutes of Keisaku returning, both of the girls were now out of the picture.
"Now with them gone, I can begin explaining my findings." The robotic body began to speak as if it was waiting for this exact moment.
"Of course." Keisaku nodded in return.
"This suit was meant to be used in cohesion with other technologies, such as DemonHeart, something called the 'cold air reactor' and a few more. It all adds up to some big suit that has an insane amount of energy, keeps the user alive, and even acts as their own body. What the actual purpose for this is; I don't know. The biggest mystery is that the armour on this thing is only proportional to the finished machine. Another of the cohesive technologies is called 'advanced silk nano-fibre'. This, combined with a slightly modified suit, would protect the user against almost anything. So why the life support?"
"Perhaps the intended user, maybe the mastermind, has a terminal illness? No, wait-" he remembered a vital point. "-we've already deemed the mastermind to be one of the higher ups."
"............................"
"............................."
They were at a standstill on information again.
"...........another discovery I made was that this suit, even when completed, was never intended to have weapons on it."
"? This doesn't make any sense. If it wasn't intended to be used as a weapon, why all the attacks?"
The metallic body shrugged its shoulders. "I don't know. Other than what this machine and you tell me, it's all speculation."
Keisaku fell back onto the floor and lay his head on a nearby wall. With no other leads to go on, speculation was all they had.
This would require a very large amount of thought.
