Between the lines 3
A full thirty minutes after Haruke had left his cell, Mass gained a serious glint in his eyes.
His plan of escape was not actually his own. It was given to him by Haruke via his swarm, since he knew their conversation was most likely being monitored.
Mass took a deep breath in.
He then blew all of that air down at a single point on the ground. The area of impact showed cracks and other signs of damage.
(Why didn't I think of this?) he repeated this process for a few minutes.
Once a semi-circular line of damage surrounded him, he realised that he could not damage the full area around himself as he was; sat with his hands in the floor.
Focusing his strength into his arms, he lifted himself upwards into a handstand position.
He then resumed his attack on the concrete floor.
With his ability to control mass, he could make anything he touched lighter of heavier. But there was a limit. He could not make the floor light enough for him to break.
So, he made his breath as heavy as he could. Each shot of breath weakened the floor, and once he had made a circle around his body, a weak point had formed.
Planting his feet on the ground, he focused his mind onto the area surrounding his hands.
With all his strength, he tried to pull his hands free.
It hurt, but it was the only means of escape.
Even with his powers making only a certain area as light as possible, it was still quite heavy.
On the third successive pull, his hands were thrown from within the concrete and into the air.
With his arms free, he could now walk out of his cell.
Using his powers, he kicked open the door easily.
An alarm sounded.
Mass clicked his tongue and looked over to the exit.
But his eyes drifted to a different door.
"Anti.........."
If men charged in with guns, Mass would not stand a chance, so he needed a method of either offence or defence.
The door to the other cell flung open, and the eye of the boy inside widened in surprise.
The argon gas inside flooded out, and the air outside flooded in.
Almost as soon as the door was opened, Anti readied his fingers.
Beams flew from his fingertips and at his metal cage. In moments, the bottom half of his cage was removed, and the decrease in magnetic material made him drop to the ground. Mass gently placed his hand onto the remaining metal.
Anti ripped the metal from his body with ease. He pulled the mask from his face.
"Thanks."
At that moment, men with guns arrived at the door, all aiming at Anti.
He sighed.
Then, more beams flew from his fingertips, slicing the men apart.
Annihilation caused by matter and antimatter coming into contact resulted in neutrinos, more matter-antimatter pairings and high energy photons. By feeding the regular matter a constant supply of antimatter, he could thereby create a constant beam of high energy photons from both the initial annihilation and those resulting from the newly created antimatter.
It truly was a devastating power, especially since not much was known about antimatter in the first place.
Anti calmly stepped over the pieces of men that lay scattered along the floor, with Mass keeping a slight distance behind.
"We're out, but where do we go?" He asked.
"I was thinking that anywhere would be good. But the first stop has to be a bakery."
"Hah! I like the sound of that!" Anti laughed heartily.
Somewhere else , two other monsters born from science were having a different exchange.
"I heard that there's a guy in HAZE that also uses blades. I'd enjoy watching the two of you going at it." The perfect blonde boy sat with his legs up whilst he spoke to the black-clad girl with vacant eyes.
"If needs be, I will fight with him." Her vacant eyes shifted to her waist. Only a few hours ago, three large holes had pierced through her body completely. But thanks to a certain boy, she did not die. "My goal is Tsubachi Izuka and Urushiro Haruke. Anything else is an added bonus."
"So you don't care about what the boss has planned?"
"Not one bit. Sure, he can blame the entire underground for what he is, but I blame only the overseer. Haruke."
"I totally agree with you. But that guy has a lot of people to blame. After all, he was the first subject. Lots of people had a hand in his project. So much so, that I doubt he could remember them all."
"So he decided on the entire facility instead." Said the girl, Cerebra.
Cerebra had begun making modifications to her body to up her defences and give her faster movements. She was never originally intending to enter prolonged combat, but she found out quickly that she was going to, and that she was ill equipped.
"I will grow stronger.........." Words escaped from her mouth.
"Hm? You say something?"
"No."
At that moment, static started coming through large speakers next to an even larger screen that read 'audio only' in English.
From that static grew a voice.
It seemed to be one full of urgency and maybe even fear.
"A-alert, alert!!! The espers, Mass and Anti, have escaped from their cells. Calling on all available guards!! Find and restrain them!! Approach with maximum caution!!"
"................" The two stared at the screen as the male voice continued to speak about the escaped prisoners.
The frequency that the receiver was set to was one that was almost never used for communications by the underground. That alone showed the sheer urgency of the message.
It had to reach as many people as possible.
"So those two have escaped? Good for them." Ethereal spoke.
But Cerebra continued to stare in the direction of the voice.
"Mass-nii, Anti-nii..........."
('-nii'?) Ethereal was confused to say the least. Cerebra never referred to anyone with respect, so her words were extraordinarily out of character.
