Mathew lunged for Xana and everyone held their breaths. Xana stepped neatly aside and Mathew lay sprawled on the floor.
"Next time find an opponent you can defeat," she sneered at him.
At that moment, all the watches of Rachel, Emma, Joy, Xana and Gemma rang.
Aletta bashed Emma's watch into the wall again and again. Finally it was silent. Aletta then realized she had bashed the batteries out instead of breaking the watch.
Oh well. That worked anyway. Aletta scooped the batteries up as well as she could and dumped them into a pocket. She might need them.
Joy heard the sharp ringing as she sank deeper and deeper. Her time was almost gone. There was nothing she could do to live anymore.
That was for doctors to do. But there weren't any doctors here for her.
Xana, Rachel and Gemma froze.
Alden.
Xana looked at the other two.
"I'll do it," Gemma mumbled.
She received the call.
At the same time, Mathew smirked. I will be the one to take Xana down. I, Mathew Mathews, her former best friend.
What he didn't know was that Xana knew what he was planning... She had pressed her device called the Thought-Hearer to his arm.
