"Please..." cried Emma. "Please help me escape..."
"I can't!" the guard said, torn between her beliefs and her duties.
"Please, Aletta..."
The female guard had told Emma her name a while ago.
Aletta looked Emma in the eye, as if to find out if she could be trusted. Emma didn't flinch away. She stared right back, and finally, Aletta gave her reply.
"Alright..." she said.
"But how are we going to escape?" asked Emma.
Aletta smiled.
"That should be easy," she said.
Aletta took off her cap. Long, dark blonde hair tumbled out, and Emma saw that Aletta had eyes as blue as cobalt.
Just like her own...
"No! Aletta, you aren't going to--?" Too late, Emma realized Aletta's plan.
"Yes, Emma," she said.
"No! I can't let you do this!" cried Emma.
Aletta shook her head. "This is the only way."
She opened the chains chaining Emma to the wall with a key. Then, they exchanged clothes.
