"You know which way to go, right?" whispered Aletta.
"Yes, but can't we both go?" Emma cried again.
Aletta shook her head."They will notice if we are both gone. If you go as me for the change of guards they may not even know you are missing until Greyling comes to see you and finds me instead," Aletta replied for the hundredth time.
Emma nodded miserably.
"Now, chain me to the wall. It is almost time for the change of guards," said Aletta.
Tears streaming down Emma's cheeks, she did as Aletta said.
Aletta smiled at Emma sadly.
"Gag me," she said.
"No!" cried Emma. "That is too much! I will not... I will not!"
"Please, Emma..." Aletta pleaded.
Sobbing, Emma gagged Aletta.
"I will come back and find you when this is over, Aletta. Thank you for everything..." she whispered.
"Mmank mou," mumbled Aletta, muffled by the gag. "Mow mo."
"One last thing. Promise me that if Greyling questions you, you will say I tricked you," Emma pleaded.
Aletta nodded as much as she could.
Emma left.
She left the cell.
She left captivity.
She left Aletta.
She left her smart watch.
