Gemma still did not understand how Xana did it. Yes, she knew Xana had the Thought-Hearer, but still there was no way Xana could move so fast.
Memories flashed before her eyes-- memories of books she had read and movies she had seen. What if--?
In that second hands wrenched her shoulders from the thought.
Xana.
"No."
Gemma was reassured but she could not know for sure. For a moment she did not understand how Xana knew what she was thinking, then she remembered.
The Thought-Hearer. Hang on.
What had she been thinking before? Gemma only had a vague idea that it had something to do with books but nothing else.
How could she forget it so quickly?
And Gemma forgot that thought too.
