Time is Running Out

Chapter 2

"The first missing girl's name is Tammy Brendon," said Josie, grabbing a file from her ever-full shelf and opening it. She searched for the right page, then found it and continued speaking.

"She's eleven years old, and so is Laura. That's why some people think the incidents might be connected. Tammy Brendon has hazel-green eyes. Laura Paris has brown eyes. Both with brown hair," continued Josie. "Tammy Brendon was last seen by her friend Ariel Grim. They were walking home together. Ariel Grim parted with Tammy Brendon at the crossroad by their homes-- the Zebron Road one. After that, no one saw Tammy Brendon as she walked the one last road home. Tammy Brendon lives with her grandparents at the Roqu Flats. Laura Paris was last seen riding a bicycle into Alundi Woods. That's close to Roqu Flats. That's all we know," said Josie. "Those poor girls."

"That's all?" cried Emma in disbelief.

"Yes! What else do you want to know? And remember, you are NOT to investigate," Josie said.

"Fine," the girls agreed reluctantly.

Deep inside Alundi Woods, the Kidnapper was afraid. He whispered to his wife Mary, "They're after us, the police and Xana."

"Then we must leave these woods," said Mary.

Alden nodded worriedly. "Start packing," he said.

In another part of the woods, Xana was frowning. "Saqcy, is Greyling still on our trail?"

"He is, Mistress," replied Saqcy.

"Then we must hide," said Xana.

"Yes, Mistress," said Saqcy.

Xana bit her lip so hard that a drop of blood formed on it. Saqcy watched with wide eyes. She had never seen her Mistress so worried...

Greyling was smiling a crooked, evil smile.

"No one suspecting us?" he asked.

"No, not the police, Master. Xana knows, but who cares about that puny girl?" said Xavier.

"I didn't ask for your opinion, Xavier," snarled Greyling.

"Y-yes, M-Master," Xavier mumbled.
