Jasmin's POV
"Come on, Jasmin. I need to talk to you." Mama says, handing me a cup of hot cocoa as she's holding one in her other hand.
She made it just how I like it, damn near overflowing with jumbo marshmallows.
I follow her, her leading me outside to the campfire. We sit down around it. "What is it that you wanted to talk to me about, Mama?"
"I'm really glad that you're enjoying yourself on this trip. I know it's been hard for you."
"I'm still upset." "Jasmin, I get it-" "You act like Gisette never existed." "Honey, Gisette will always live in my memory. She was my first love, I'll never forget her. But I can't be miserable forever. She wouldn't want that. I know it's gonna take some time, but you should let life be easier for you and let go of this resentment. I love you, Gisette loves you, Joan loves you. We just wanna see you be happy and loosen up."
She gets up and sits next to me, encasing me in a motherly hug. "We'll get through this together, Jasmin," She pulls away, looking me in my eyes as her hands are on my shoulders. "And I'm so sorry for making you feel like I've sprung everything on you. I should've asked you about making changes. If you ever need to talk, I'm here for you. I honestly want you to believe that."
I don't know what to say. She's finally apologized to me for hurling everything at me, and she's finally acknowledged the way I feel.
"I love you, Ma." "I love you, too, Jasmin."
