Amelia's POV

Dear Amelia,

Goldsmith Academy is inviting you to attend our school for otherworldly creatures. As we have not heard from you, we assume you did not get our other letters or have not had time to fully think through your answer.

Your parents were both beloved teachers and I believe you would be a perfect fit for our school. We have been awaiting your arrival with great enthusiasm and hope you will attend the school's annual Christmas Ball on the 10th of December and see for yourself that this school would be a great fit for you.

Yours sincerely,

Professor Shire

"Great, another invite to the insane school," I told Cam. She replied with a yawn and a meow, you cannot really expect a better answer when you're talking to a cat. Another day at high school. Great. Ok, so the plan for today is not to speak to anyone, teachers, or students, as normal, then come home.

"Well, I will see you later Cammy," I told her, as I walked out the door.

The day started off completely normal, everyone ignored me and left me be. It has been that way since my parents died two years ago.

That day was the worst of my life, I woke up to someone knocking on our door. I had noticed the lights and sirens before I even made it to the front door, I could not breathe. It had felt like someone was sitting on my chest, as they told me that my parents had been killed in a car accident. I was fifteen and have basically been on my own ever since. I have an aunt, but she lives out of town and isn't really 'kid friendly' as she puts it.

So just me and Cammy, my tabby cat. I used to have a big group of friends, but I stopped talking to them when my parents died. Because I wanted to be alone but mainly because they were idiots. They were, or rather are, the popular crowd and do not care about anything other than being adored and pretty.

So, being ignored is relatively normal for me but for some reason today was different. As I was leaving school Jake stopped me. Jake was always an idiot and my eyes. I dated him years ago, though it didn't last long. Mainly because he was all muscle and no brain. He pushed me down the side of the high-school and held my arms to my sides.

"Where do you think you're going?" he sneered at me.

I tried to break free but the more I struggled the harder his grip got on me.

"What's your problem, Jake?"

"You are a bitch. You think you can dump me and then go off with some other guy and I wouldn't find out?" I felt his hand press against my neck.

"What the hell are you talking about?" I tried to yell but he was grabbing my neck so tight it came out more as a raspy whisper.

"You're mine. I'm going to make sure you never forget it."

I felt his other hand move from my arm to my stomach. He sneered as he started to rip my shirt off me. I tried to get free but that just made him angry, he hit me against the wall. Hard. My vision went blurry and I was sure I was going to pass out. My muscles felt like jelly, I was exhausted. I try to hold back the tear that slips down my cheek as he throws my shirt to the ground. This is not me. I am not weak; I do not let stuff like this happen to me. I tried to fight but his grip on my neck got impossibly tighter. I am trapped. I am helpless.

"Please, Jake. P... please stop," I stuttered. It was useless, I could see it in his eyes, he was enjoying my pain.

"Shut up, bitch." He grabs my skirt and tears it off with so much force that it falls to the ground in pieces.

I can't believe this is happening to me. There is nothing I can do.

He starts to kiss my neck as his hand roams my chest. I can feel him smiling and I tremble with fear.

I feel his hand go underneath my underwear but before he can rip those off, something pulls him from me.

I mean pulls... because when I open my eyes Jake is flying through the air away from me. His body hits the other building with a massive thud.

I couldn't move. My whole body froze in shock as I watched Jake get up and start running towards me. I could feel the anger coming from him in waves. I swear it was almost choking me.

That's when I saw him walking towards Jake, he seemed extremely calm, but the closer he got the more I could see the anger in his green eyes. I watched as he grabbed Jake by the throat and lifted him up as if he weighed nothing, before throwing him to the ground.

Jake kept fighting back, never backing down. But the other guy was stronger and faster. Every punch that Jake threw the other guy hit back twice as hard. After what felt like an eternity, Jake was finally still on the ground.

I tried to move, tried to make my muscles work again but all I could do was slowly fall to the ground. The cold December air hit my exposed skin like icy shards, making me shiver. I wrapped my arms around myself trying to keep as much body heat as I could.

I could hear footsteps approaching me slowly. It was as if he were trying to be as calm as he could.

Like I was a frightened deer, he was attempting to approach. It occurred to me that he never looked at me the whole fight. Jake however never stopped glaring at me.

Why wasn't he looking at me? I don't know why out of everything, but him avoiding me, annoyed me the most. He knelt in front of me as he handed me a ball of something.

A jacket. He had given me a jacket. I took it gratefully and put my shivering arms through it. I'm not the shortest girl but it still reached my knees.

"Thank you."

"You're welcome. Are you okay?"

I smiled up at him as best as I could and answered as honestly as I could.

"No. But I will be."
