Oscar's Pov

"Oscar, there you are. I've been looking for you all week, where have you been?"

I turned to see Sam running across the ballroom already dressed up in a tux. What time is it? Damn, the party starts in an hour. I better get ready.

"Hey, dude, I was doing Shire a favor, remember. I had to go and get a new student."

"Oh yeah, right. I got distracted. I spent the last few days with Sherrie."

I rolled my eyes at him.

"Shut up, Oscar. You've seen her. She's hot."

"She is not hot, she's covered head to toe in make-up and has the personality of a stone."

"You've known me for years, dude, trust me she's not entirely bad."

"Maybe, but she's not your mate. You should know better."

"It can take years to find your mate, I'm just enjoying myself till then," he defended.

I snuck a glance towards the students setting up for the party. Shire had given me the task of making sure everything gets done in time. I'm not sure why I agreed. If I had known that Amelia was coming, I never would have. I would have been able to pick her up and bring her here myself but instead I had to ask one of the warriors to go and get her.

I started walking towards the dorms to get changed, with Sam following close behind.

"I swear, dude, I think sometimes you forget you're a student like the rest of us. Just because the Professor treats you like his lap dog, doesn't mean you're any different."

Lap Dog? Who's he calling a lap dog?

"I am not a lap dog. And you never know when you'll find your mate, they can sneak up on you."

Sam stopped. He was just standing there wide-eyed staring at me. I couldn't help the laughter that came over me. He looked like a stunned fish. All wide-eyed with his mouth opening and closing as if he couldn't decide what to say.

"You... have you? You can't have. Who is it? Why didn't you tell me?"

Before I could even respond we were interrupted.

"Hello, Baby, I've missed you," she purred as she caressed my arm.

"I told you Nicole. We are nothing. Just leave me alone."

I brushed her hand off me as I started walking again.

Sam hurried to keep up with me as I rushed back to the dorm. He hated her just as much as I did.

True, she was a shifter just like us, but she was also one of the vilest people I had ever met. On the outside she looked flawless with her straight jet-black hair and expensive gown. But on the inside, she was an empty pit where a soul should be. Goddesses help whoever gets her as a mate.

"She looks like she wants to murder someone. The girl's a psycho. Why are the hot ones always crazy?"

"Are you just going to stand there and watch me get ready?" I asked Sam. He was sitting on his bed gawking at me. We have been friends since we were pups, so when they made us roommates first year we were thrilled.

"Technically I'm sitting. You still need to tell me who she is."

I rolled my eyes at him.

"Later, I have like twenty minutes to shower and change," I told him, as I turned the shower on.

"Why do you care about some party? Wait, she's coming, isn't she? You asked her out! Dude, this is awesome. I'll stay at Sherries again to give you two some privacy," he all but yelled through the bathroom door.

I finished my shower and went back to tell him the truth.

"There's no need. I didn't ask her to the ball."

"Why not? She's your mate! You're not rejecting her, are you?" My growl must have been the only answer he needed because he answered his own question.

"Of course not. You've been waiting for her for years. She's not rejecting you, is she?" He whispered the last part.

Sighing, I sat on my bed. "I have no idea. She doesn't know I'm her mate. She doesn't know any of this. She was raised human."

I watched as a series of different emotions crossed his face. First relief then confusion, before settling on shock.

"She's human? That's not possible!"

"Calm down. She's not human, her parents just never told her what she was."

"What is she? A shifter? Mage? Nymph? Vampire?"

"I have no idea."

"Well, what are her parents?"

"I don't know that either. Shire just told me they had died."

"And they never told her about us? About our world or what she was? How is that possible?"

"I have no idea."

"Well, we are going to have to show her our world but right now we have a party to get you to," he said, pulling me along behind him. I couldn't help but smile at his eagerness, he has been waiting for my mate almost as long as me. She is our Luna after all. And he's the beta. Betas always have a built-in instinct to protect their Luna.

Arriving in the great hall I couldn't believe how amazing it looked. The golden walls were covered in candles, multi color's reflecting off the marble surface making the ceiling look like the northern lights.

The main focal point was the tree. Every year the wood nymph and fae students spent days making sure it was perfect. This year they had out done themselves. The tree stood forty feet high and was covered with every decoration you could imagine. It looked magical because it was. Everything was otherworldly.

"Well which one is she?" Sam asked excitedly, as he handed me a glass of eggnog. I searched the room scanning every girl, but she wasn't here.

Did she decide not to come?

Was she hurt?

Where was she?

Before my nerves could take over completely, an amazing scent overpowered me and had me smiling from ear to ear as I watched her walk into the hall. She looked beautiful. The blue dress hugged her chest to her waist where it flowed freely down to the floor. Making it glide behind her as she walked. Her blonde curls were pulled back behind her shoulders showing off the top of her dress. It looked like it was metallic.

Metal on a dress?

As she moved, I realised it was wings. Metal wings folding over her shoulders. It was mesmerizing. Sam followed my gaze to Amelia.

"Wow, she's beautiful!"

I couldn't help the growl that slipped from my lips.

"Whoa dude, I didn't mean anything like that I swear."

Calming myself I nodded to him, keeping my eyes on her the whole time. She was perfect. I watched as Ben walked over to her with a massive grin on his face. She smiled at him as he introduced himself.

"I don't believe we have met; I would surely remember someone as exquisite as you."

I could see the blush light up her cheeks even from across the room. I could feel Sam stiffen next to me. He wanted to protect his future Luna almost as much as I did. Being shifters, we could hear everything they were saying even from this distance.

"Let's kill him," he whispered to me.

My only response was a growl as I started walking towards my mate.

"May I have this dance?" That stupid vampire then had the nerve to grab my mate's arm and pull her to the dance floor.

That's it. I'm going to kill the bloodsucker.
