Amelia's POV

We walked silently as he led me to his truck. The thing was huge and from what I could tell it was expensive. I've been in enough high price cars to know the signs. The black seats are definitely real leather and have about ten different settings. The windows were all blacked out and looked too thick. Probably bullet proof.

Who the hell is this guy?

And why did I voluntarily get in his car?

I think I'm going crazy.

"Are you okay?"

I realised that the truck had stopped moving. We were parked outside my house.

How does he know where I live?

"Amelia? Are you okay?" I could hear the concern in his voice.

Wait...

How does he know my name?

"Who are you?"

"Oscar Campbell"

I looked at him and I could see the moment realisation hit him and something else, surprise? The moment our eyes connected it was as if he couldn't look away.

"That's not what I meant; how do you know me? How do you know where I live? Who are you?"

"Professor Shire sent me to come and get you. You belong there with me... All of us."

Getting out of the truck as quickly as I could, I ran. These people are crazy.

"Amelia, wait!" he shouted after me, but I ignored him. I couldn't stop. I'm done with insane people. I'm done with Jake and that stupid school. This place isn't my home anymore. It hasn't been for a very long time.

I'm leaving.

My parents' money is mine when I turn 18 in a few months and I have more than enough cash to last me until then.

"Amelia, please."

I didn't stop, I ran through the door, locking it behind me. The door shook beneath my hands as he shoved against it.

"Leave me ALONE!" I yelled, and the banging stopped. Putting my ear to the door I heard him sigh and whisper to himself. "I wish you knew."

He spoke louder so I could hear him, "look, I know you have no reason to trust me. I get it. I do," another sigh.

"But you should trust him."

There was a shuffle, and something hit my foot. I looked down and saw it was a letter.

Reaching for it I told him, "I don't need another invite to some stupid party. I'm not going anywhere with you."

"It's not an invitation, it's from your father."

It can't be.

Opening the letter, I knew he was telling the truth.

Dear Amy,

If you are reading this, then it means I'm not there to tell you all that you need to know. For that, my daughter, I am incredibly sorry. I hope one day you will forgive me and your mother. We only ever wanted to keep you safe and give you the chance to be a part of the human world. You mother and I have always believed that our worlds are a lot more alike than different. We have great respect for humans, and we wanted you to gain the same respect yourself. The school is your home now and Professor Shire is our oldest friend. He will help you and protect you. T am truly sorry you have to do this alone, Amy. We both love you so very much.

Love,

Dad

I didn't even realise I was crying until a tear hit the page.

"I'm sorry, I thought it would help. Please just let me in," I could hear the sincerity in his voice.

Who are these people?

Who were my parents?

Who am I?

"Please, Amelia, open the door," he sounded so desperate, I couldn't understand why.

"Why should I?" I mumbled, but somehow, he must have heard me.

"Because I promise you that I will never hurt you. I couldn't."

The concern in his voice made me do the stupidest thing I have ever done.

I opened the door.

I'm not sure why but a part of me trusts him. I really am going crazy. He rushed to me the second the door was open. Wrapping his massive arms around me, he pulled me to his chest.

For a moment I forgot everything that was happening. For a moment I felt completely peaceful as I stood, being held by a stranger. It was as if he was protecting me from everything and everyone and I liked it. But my senses came back to me.

Backing away I asked the first question that came to my mind.

"What the hell do I even wear to a ball?"

I watched as he ran to his truck, coming back, he smiled down at me as he handed me a bright blue box.

"The letter is from your father; this is from your mother."

Opening the box, I could see the most beautiful pastel blue dress.

"It's perfect. She always knew what I needed, even before I did."

"You just need to pack, and we can go."

Looking up at him I realised he seemed almost excited. Why is he excited? Something about his smile made me smile back.

"I'm not coming with you."

Watching his smile fade was heart-breaking, it almost made me want to change my mind.

"You have to, you belong there with us," he pleaded.

"Maybe. But even if you are all magic or whatever, I'm not. I'm human."

"I wouldn't be so sure."

"Wait... if I'm not human. What am I?"

"I'm not the best one to explain all of this but the professor will."

This is all too crazy, maybe I'm hallucinating, yeah that's it. I must have hit my head harder than I thought. I'll wake up tomorrow and all of this will be a freaky dream.

"Please, Amelia, Trust me."

I looked up at him, getting lost in those emerald green eyes. Damn. I could stare at those eyes all day.

What am I doing? Why am I ogling at a guy I just met?

"I'll come to the ball, but I'm reserving the right to say no to the psycho school."

"I'll take it," he smiled at me.
