Amelia's POV

Okay, even I had to admit the dining hall was actually kind of cool, they served actual food. None of that unidentifiable slob that you normally get at high school. There were so many choices, I eventually had to just pick one at random. Like, seriously, who can choose between pizza and spaghetti? It's impossible, trust me. I filled my bowl with pasta as I followed Olivia to a table on the far side of the hall.

I saw Mason already sitting down with a girl I had never met; she was pretty though. Her brunette hair just touched her shoulders, and she had such a kindness to her eyes as she looked up at me.

"Amelia, this is Skye. She's amazing, you'll love her." Olivia gestured to the girl who smiled at me before saying. "So, you're the roommate she won't shut up about?"

"That's me," I replied, smiling.

"You picked the perfect time to start school, considering that winter break starts Friday," Skye jokes.

"I hadn't even thought about it like that, you're only here for a few days before we all go back home for the holidays."

I looked at Olivia and realised I had completely forgotten about Christmas. I haven't really celebrated the last two. It's just been me. Last year I ordered Chinese food and binged watched supernatural. God that sounds so sad, now I've thought about it.

"Earth to Lia, you in there?" I saw Skye's hands waving in front of my face.

"Lia?" I asked, confused.

"You don't like it? Hmm, what about Amy?" I instantly cringed and Mason was quick to defend me.

"Definitely not Amy. She hates that one."

"I don't hate it," I lied.

Mason arched an eyebrow at me.

"You can't lie to me, baby, it's basically impossible." My confusion must have been evident on my face because Olivia explained, "he's an empath, essentially he can feel everything you feel. You get used to it... eventually."

I couldn't believe I hadn't even thought to ask what they were. I swear I am not usually this dumb.

"Speaking of which, what are you guys? If you don't mind me asking. If it's a rude question, feel free to ignore me," I babbled.

They all laughed at my obvious discomfort before answering me.

"It's not rude. It's normal, though eventually you can sort of tell, with most people anyway. Especially shifters, they tend to mirror whatever animal they shift into. Like Olivia here, she's a shifter and her were's a wolf. Which is why her personality is that of an excitable puppy," Mason explained. Making Olivia stick her tongue out at him.

"I am a Fae, some of us have abilities but not all of us. Skye over there, she's harder to guess. She's a lot rarer than us but she's a kitsune, which if you ask me is just a fancy way of saying fox."

Skye rolled her eyes at him, "Mason's right, you get used to figuring out what people are. However, you, my dear, seem to be an exception."

Olivia and Mason both stared at me as if they were concentrating really hard before speaking up.

"She's right, what are you?" Mason asked.

I squirmed in my seat, unsure of what to say. What am I? If I'm being honest, I would like to know myself. I still don't feel any different, I still feel human.

Olivia seemed to get distracted by something as her eyes clouded over. It was kind of terrifying to watch but after a few seconds her eyes became clear and she started furiously chatting to Skye about something. I'm not sure what, I wasn't really paying them enough attention.
