Oscar's POV

I don't understand how my night had gone so bad; I had finally decided to tell her. And now I'm standing here alone, she rejected me. My wolf was whimpering inside of my head, he wanted her, he needed her.

Looking down I saw a glimmer of blue in the leaves; I brought the strange thing up to the light. It was a heart; it was her necklace. I must have broken the chain when I tried to stop her from running.

I put the strange jewel inside my pocket and walked back to the dorm, avoiding the dining hall.

Sam sat up as I entered, he must have been waiting for me.

"Well, how did it go? Did you tell her? Wait, are you okay? What happened?" I ignored his questions and just collapsed on the bed. I couldn't believe she had rejected me, what did I do wrong?

Sam was still staring at me, waiting for an answer.

"She rejected me." It came out as a whisper.

"Maybe she just doesn't know what it means, maybe she doesn't understand." He was trying to figure it out. It's extremely rare to reject your mate, I mean who wants to reject the one person who is perfect for them?

"It's my fault, I should have told her the truth sooner. Someone beat me to it; she already knew I was her mate."

"Who told her? No one knows apart from you and me. Who could have told her?"

I thought about it, who could have told her? I knew Sam wouldn't. Olivia had no idea I was her mate, my sister is hopeless at secrets. Who else could have known?

"I have no idea," I admitted.

The next few days went by in a haze, every time I would try and talk to her, she would run in the other direction. Sam was trying to cheer me up, but nothing was working. My wolf was in pain, and so was I. I didn't want anything other than her; I knew what would happen if I didn't accept my fate and move on. All wolves knew that a rejection can be fatal, the only chance a wolf has, is to accept the rejection. I had felt my wolf getting weaker, I was weaker too. It was like the life was being sucked from me, I was dying slowly.

When it was time to go home, I was struggling to act normal, I knew Olivia wasn't falling for it. She kept staring at me worriedly.

Luckily, she never asked me about it, I don't think I have the energy to tell her everything.

Me, Sam, Mason, Skye, and Olivia were all silent until we had gotten in the car to head to the pack. Olivia had decided she was having some friend Christmas this year, so she had invited everyone home with us.

"So, you guys didn't invite Amelia back to the pack?" Sam asked.

"She said she was spending it with her parents, I'm going to miss her though," Olivia replied.

My heart stung at the mention of my mate, it distracted me so much I didn't notice when Sam was quiet.

He was looking at Olivia confused, then it hit me. Parents... she doesn't have any.

"What do you mean she's spending it with her parents?"

We all got out of the car before Olivia replied.

"Parents, like her mother and father. What's wrong with that?"

Sam looked at me and asked, "I thought you said her parents died? When I went to pick her up, there was definitely no one else living there, I would have smelt them."

"Yeah, Shire said they were in an accident a couple of years ago. I didn't know she lived alone though."

I heard Mason curse himself, causing us all to look over at him.

"I can't believe I missed it; she was already upset before you asked what her plans were. I just thought it was because of that. She was lying."

Olivia looked on the brink of tears, upset she hadn't noticed why her roommate was so quiet.

"That's why she freaked out about her necklace," Olivia whispered.

Necklace?

"Necklace?" I asked.

"Yeah, her mother gave it to her. A couple days ago it went missing, she's been frantic trying to find it. I can't believe she's all alone."

I should have given her the necklace back, why did I keep it?

"Maybe she doesn't have to be, you guys have been to her house, right? So why don't we all go there and surprise her," Mason offered. It was a good idea, she may not want me but I still cared for my mate. I didn't want her to be alone.

"Hell, yes!" Olivia cheered.

For the first time in days, I felt happy. I was going to see her again and there was no running away. I could finally talk to my mate and find out what the hell went wrong.
