CHAPTER 13
Zane and I walked back to our rooms. It was kind of nice having a room right next to him because he really had no choice if he wanted to walk me there or not. I smiled to myself and we got to our doors. I turned around to face Zane and leaned my back against the door.
"Well, um..." said Zane awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck
"That was fun" I said and smiled
He nodded. "Yeah, it was, we uh, we should do that again sometime"
I nodded. "Yeah, definitely"
He took a step closer to me and put a hand on my door a little above my head
My stomach gave a little flop at him being so close
"Uh, listen, Delilah..." he said slowly. "You know how you were asking me who I moved on to?" he said awkwardly
"Uh, yeah" I said staring into his eyes
"Well, it was sort of... well..."
"Yeah?" I said quietly. What was Zane doing? Was he going to tell me it was true? That he had moved on to someone else? But then...why was that someone?
"You" he whispered
My eyes widened a little. "Really?" I said quietly
He nodded and came a little closer. "Really"
I stared into his green eyes getting lost in them.
"I just thought I'd let you know because, well...I... I was hoping that maybe...maybe you..." he trailed off
"Felt the same way?" we both said at the same time
I blushed a little and he gave a little smile
"Well, Zane, I uh...I..."
"Do?" he said coming even closer
"Well, ye..."
He leaned in slowly and pressed his lips to mine softly.
I was shocked. Did Zane actually just kiss me?! He kissed me? He liked me? I stood there awkwardly for a second responding. I leaned forward a little, closed my eyes and kissed him back.
He pulled away and I opened my eyes. I stared in to his eyes and he smiled a little
"That was..." I started to say
"Nice" he finished for me
I nodded and smiled looking down and blushing
He put a finger under my chin and lifted my head up
"You know, that's really cute" he said staring into my eyes
"Thanks" I said blushing again
He leaned back a little leaving space in between us
"So, um, I'll see you tomorrow?"
I nodded and smiled. "Yeah"
He kissed my cheek and walked into his room shutting the door behind him. I walked into my room, shut the door behind me, leaned against it, and squealed happily. I just got my first kiss! By Zane! And he kissed me! I looked into the room and saw a very angry looking Brody standing there with his arms crossed over his chest. I screamed and put my hand over my mouth to muffle it
"Brody, what are you doing in here? How did you get in?!"
"I turned invisible and walked through the door." He grumbled. He seemed really pissed about something
"Well what are you doing in here?!"
I came in here to try and find you and when you didn't answer the door, I came in. Delilah, you blew me off!"
Oh crap, I did! I totally forgot. "Brody, I'm so sorry, I totally forgot" I said walking up to him
He took a step back. "Where were you and why did you blow me off? And who were you talking to outside your door and why do you look so happy?" he said angrily
"I was uh... I was out with Zane..."
"You blew me off to go hang out with Zane!" he shouted
"Brody, I'm so sorry! I swear, it won't happen again" I said taking another step towards him
He sighed in frustration. "Alright Delilah, fine, but I'm still a little angry"
"I'm sorry" I said quietly
"It's ok, I guess" he said sitting down on the bed
"So, um, did you by any chance find out anything?"
"Yeah, I did" he said kind of irritated
"Really?" I said going to sit by him
"Yeah"
"Well, what did you find?" I said eagerly
"Well, I went back to the restricted library after you didn't show up and I found a book on the Affinity. It explains a little more about what they believe in and who's in it."
"Yeah..."
"Well, it turns out your whole family is or was involved. It even said some stuff about your parents"
"Really? What did it say?"
"Well, you know how your parents said they moved out of the magical world because they thought you would never get your powers?"
I nodded.
"Well, it turns out they moved into the mortal world to get away from the Affinity. Turns out that your grandparents were involved and so on and your dad never approved of the Affinity so when he married your mom, they ran away to escape all of that. That's why you've never met any of your relatives and when you got your powers, your parents were worried because they didn't want you to have anything to do with the Affinity"
"Oh, wow" was all I said. I heard all that Brody said but my mind was still a little dazed from the kiss. I couldn't get Zane out of my mind. His pecan hair, his green eyes, his soft lips on mine...
"Delilah?" said Brody
"Oh, sorry, you know, just taking it all in"
"Yeah, I know it's a lot...but there's more"
My head snapped up. "Go on"
"Ok well the book said some more things about the Affinity. The other book said that the members wanted to turn all of the half bloods and magical creatures into slaves. Well, this book went into a little more detail. It said that not only do they want to turn them into slaves for the purebloods but they want to take over the entire human-magical race. Apparently when they lost the second war, some mortals took the side of the half bloods and now the Affinity has turned on them too. After the war, the Affinity started to plot another way to take over the entire human-magical race and they are still plotting to this day. The book predicted the rise of the Affinity in about one hundred years from the war as the Duncan generation grew and more people joined."
"Seriously? But a hundred years, that's around now" I said slowly
Brody nodded. "Yeah, I know"
"Brody, what are we going to do?!"
He shook his head. "I don't know but before we can do anything we have to find out if the school is involved in this"
I nodded. "Yeah, we do but how?"
"Well, I've been working on my ability and I've gotten pretty good at it so maybe we can find a way to sneak into the school's office and get into some of the records and back rooms"
"Couldn't we get into huge trouble for that?"
Brody nodded nervously. "Yeah"
I gave an mischievous smile
"Let's do it"
