"You have now completed the test"

[Name] sighed as the pressure and stress of these tests overwhelmed her, just as always. She was smart and she was aware of it. But if her test scores didn't get any better, she knew he would get mad. She softly laid her forehead onto the desk in front of her while she crossed her fingers from under the desk. She waited for her other siblings to finish.

'Please get a good score. Please get a good score.' She chanted continuously in her head.

Her chanting was interrupted by her mother, "Now, the top scorers for today's daily tests were..."

"Nina,"

"Mason,"

"Will,"

"And..." The anticipation killed her.

"Sam."

[Name] exhaled in disappointment. Her name wasn't called, again. As she slowly lifted up her head, her mother noticed her worried expression. She walked up to her desk and kneeled down to her level.

"Don't worry. You were very close to a perfect score. I know you can do it next time" Her mother encouraged. But this act of reassurance did nothing to the little girl. She knew what was bound to happen. She slowly turned to face the brunette boy and saw the look on his face. He was not happy, she could tell by the stern look on his face as he stared straight at the wall in front of him. Seeing his expression intimidated her. She quickly inhaled as she turned back towards her mother, trying to calm herself down. The children were eventually dismissed by their mother to go out and play.

[Name] walked into the library and saw Mason sitting down on the chair in front of the door, facing away from the girl.

"Did you not study?" he asked in a monotone voice.

"I tried my best." [Name] defended. Mason slammed his hands on the table and stood up.

"You tried your best?" he mocked angrily, "Your best? Do you know what will happen if you don't try?" He yelled. He always had anger issues, and everyone was aware. But at times it got carried away. But that comment startled her. What would happen if she didn't try?

Although he was being harsh on the four year old, he wanted to keep her safe in every way possible. After all, he knew the truth. But he didn't have the slightest courage to break it to [Name]. All she knew was that this was a bad place and Mason was planning to escape with her. She additionally knew about the tracking device and other factors. But she had no clue about what would happen if you did get adopted.

"We only have one year left until I leave. It's plenty of time for you to improve those scores." He murmured.

"You need to start spending your time in the library instead of playing those little kid games," he turned to the girl, "You understand that?" His yelling did not help at all. In fact, it never did. It only scared the girl. [Name]'s fear was the only factor that motivated her to keep trying. She truly looked up to the 11 year old. She loved how smart and fierce he was. The only negative part was his anger. She wanted one thing, and one thing only. To make him happy and satisfy him with her ability.
