After the kids ate dinner, [Name] did as Isabella told her to do. She headed straight to her office.
When she walked in, she saw her mother sitting behind a desk.
"[Name], please take a seat." She welcomed her with a warm smile. As soon as [Name] sat down, the warm smile was wiped off of Isabella's face and was replaced with a serious frown.
"Be honest with me. Did you go to the gate or not?"
You have to look vulnerable.
"N-No! I didn't." [Name] purposely stuttered. She hated how much of a wimp she sounded like, but it was for her own good.
"Look, I already know you went to the gate. But I was thinking," Isabella paused. "We can make a deal."
"I can let you stay until your time's due. But in return, you can be one of my little pets."
Act clueless.
"One of your little pets?" [Name] mumbled loudly enough for Isabella to hear.
"Yes," She motioned her finger towards someone behind [Name]. "Come forward."
[Name] turned to see Ray getting off of the wall he was just leaning on. He walked next to the girl.
When the hell did he get here?
"Hello, [Name]." The girl purposely widened her eyes. She acted as if she was speechless. In this situation, what else was she supposed to say?
"Ray has been my watch dog for quite some time. But I'm afraid he's wearing out." Isabella gave Ray the side-eye. "So, you will help in his usual activity."
Isabella switched her frown to a warm smile. "Is that clear?" It wasn't like she was giving [Name] a choice.
"Yes, mom." [Name] agreed as she looked down to her feet. Was this really the best decision?
"One more thing, I want my children to live their best lives here. And I need your help to do that." Isabella paused for a moment.
"So, you'll be handed extra chores starting tomorrow. Is that also clear?"
"Yes, mom."
"You two are free to go." And with that permission, [Name] and Ray slowly strode out of the room. She had never seen her mother so intimidating. As soon as Ray closed the door behind them, the girl fell to her knees. She felt so overwhelmed. She finally knew how Norman and Emma felt previously.
"Hey, don't sweat it. You did fine." [Name] continued to pant. She then heard a shuffle, and looked up to see Ray holding out his hand to help her up. She gladly grabbed it and got up.
