The sound of JJ's alarm pulls you out of your sleep. You rub your eyes, sitting up. If you don't get up as soon as the alarm goes off, you will never get out of bed.
JJ gets up right away, making her way to the bathroom. She stops at the door and turns to you. "I'm gonna head in the shower. I'll be out in like 15 minutes."
"Okay," you reply, picking up your bag, searching through it for an outfit. You end up choosing the simpler one out of the two you packed. You hate not having your entire closet in front of you when getting ready.
When JJ gets out of the bathroom, you're dressed. "All yours," she says to you, and with that, you head in the bathroom. You brush your teeth and wash your face. You make sure to do some quick makeup to cover the very apparent tiredness on your face.
You think about the case as you finish getting ready, hoping that the team can catch the unsub today. As you were getting dressed earlier, Hotch texted saying that three more victim's bodies were discovered overnight. This time it was a family: mother, father, and their 17-year-old daughter.
It's so sad to think about how in one moment, they are there, happily living their life. And then, just like that, they are dead at the hands of a sicko.
Your thoughts are interrupted by JJ knocking. "Hey. Sorry to rush you, but with the new victims, Hotch needs us at the station ASAP."
You figured.
"Of course. I'll be ready in five," you say, putting everything away.
. . .
You and JJ arrive at the station, head in, and gather with the rest of the team.
"Overnight, the one suspect we had was released. His alibi checked out. Shortly after, we were notified that the new victims were discovered. This means we are back to square one. Let's get to work. Everyone, you know what you should be doing." Hotch releases the statement to the rest of the team and then heads over to you.
"Y/L/N, I am going to have you talk to whoever comes in involving this case. Even if they aren't suspects, I still want you to be the one to talk to them. That way I can see how you perform."
"Absolutely, sir," you reply with a confident smile, despite being nervous. You have never done this before. What if you end up talking to the unsub?
That's the point though, isn't it?
. . .
After talking to seven different people, ranging from possible suspects to friends of the victims, you compiled some information. But soon after, you realized it's practically nothing.
The first two victims, Josh and Lynn Carter, were both in their late 40s, avid members of the town and from what you know, good people. The three most recent victims, Carl, Diane, and Lindsey Parker, were very similar in nature.
This does make sense since this unsub has a specific target, but what is it? They both were high class, distinguished members of their community, and friends of each other.
What was there to truly hate?
Unless the unsub was jealous of them? But you just can't put your finger on it.
You call in another person to talk to. His name is John Lange, he's in his late 50s, and a local shop owner downtown. He slumps into the room, taking a seat.
