Taani Kirlousker carried a magazine and cup of black-tea outside d backyard of her new foster's family in d outskirts of Bangalore. The ambience was embraced with swirl of moist cool breeze n d vehicles nearby swished n grumbled notifying d awaken city even at d late night.
It was a far cry from my wide backyard inscribed with verdant greenery, a lush pebble mountain ambushed with constant flowing water, a wooden swing swayed to-fro! As I said, I don't remember much except d ripple of fewer memories. From d past hours, I'd been following Taani trying to make sense of her life n myself own. Not like that I had a choice, but everywhere she went, I went. I don't know how but I know much about her life than my own as I watched her every move. It's strange right!
Taani sprawled on d couch underneath of a small loft savoring d taste of hot beverage in d chilly weather. She craned her neck beholding d tranquil pool of sky. Instantly, her gaze shifted to d sparkle of 3 stars. She named one in d middle as Taani star, d star at right as mom star n d left star as dad star. She deemed it as her star family like in d stories of fairy-tales.
She's such a fantasy girl, I wonder.

Taani had never seen her father but she remembered her mother, with whom she stayed until 5 years old. Her mother name is Preethi, a classical singer. She loved her daughter, nurtured her baby by providing all d facilities. She used to narrate d bed time stories along with lullabies to hush her into deep sleep. But one day, she left her in a neighborhood family with a note of returning back within 4 days n to take care of her until. D days gone, but she didn't show-up. When no one could trace her, she was given to an orphanage. But none were interested to adopt a 5-year baby when they had d choice of opting d newly born babies whom they can mold into their mini versions. From then, she lived in d group of foster families.

The sliding glass of d wooden paneled door glided, Taani wheeled around to c Swayam approaching to her. He slumped on d strutted table humming a pop song. "Sorry about mom's behavior" he said. "It's ok. Is that what u expect? She blamed me for no reason n here u r being sorry, stop this nonsense right now" she growled indignantly. "You knew her right! So don't be insensitive" he averred. "Well, then let's chuck it" she snapped back. "Taani, y didn't u cooked yet" a voice yelped cutting short their conversation.
Here comes d bimbo mother of Swayam, Ayra Saxena. She's a single mother working as d celebrity journalist. She's yet in her work uniform. Her shiny white skirt with a blue tuxedo, her dyed blonde twisted into a bun n her lips smeared with glossy lipstick. From d day, Taani came to reside in this Saxena house, she didn't like her. Preferably there are no apt reasons for it. Even though Taani striven hard to share a good rapport with this temporary adoptive mother, it always landed on grotesque circumstances ending up with blame games.
"Mom, u haven't even checked d kitchen I guess!" he screeched supporting Taani. "U shut up Shivam, let her answer. U frigging don't interfere between us" she squabbled. Taani had already seen enough of d b**** mother drama, shoved her question n strewed into her room.
"Darn! She's hurt yet again" Swayam muttered under his breath glaring at her mom. Shrugging d reflexive looks of his mother, peeks into his vibrating black-berry. His eyes stiffed widely n within no second he rushed to Taani's room.
Taani is whimpering lying on d bed. "What d hell is this Taani?" whisks Swayam bursting into her room without knocking. Taani startled throws a pillow screams "Have some mercy n just leave me alone for my sake, please". "wooo......U gotta look at this first." He throws a disgusted glance at her showing his phone. As he clicked d buttons of his black-berry, a video started to play. A handheld camera whipped around to show a figure sitting on chair with black blind fold covering her partial face including d most crux part i.e, eyes. The girl thrashed her head back n forth, the locket bouncing wildly. The picture went dark for a moment, suddenly a figure slipped her back pulling d locket onto her throat. D girl flailed her arms n kicked her legs.
"What d hell!" a sweat bed slipped from forehead of Taani. She gasped heavily with a taught of seeing someone being killed.
D throat was squeezed hard n hard through d locket chain. Whoever it was, d mask prevented their real face. Abruptly, d camera was thrown somewhere n it went blank for minimum seconds. But as d video continued someone pulled d blind fold of a girl. She coughed n tears dotted revealing her face. Taani's jaw dropped to utter numbness. She stared at d girl's face. She looked exactly like her.
That was because the girl in d video was me.
