a/n: sorry for not updating in a while, I haven't felt very motivated and school is really stressing me out. I'm definitely gonna try to post more often :) check the end for more notes!
Itsuki took out the two packs of cards and shuffled them quickly, and then flicked them across the table. Anyone who's gambled before could easily spot her looking intensely at the cards, almost breaking out in sweat, she was obviously trying to spot the cards and their matches. I just smirked at her waiting to offer me the first move or make it herself. I could hear the whispers of students talking about me "she's acting way too cocky while playing with a student council member," I obviously don't mind. "I'll cut you some slack, but this doesn't mean I'm playing easy" Itsuki told me, I rolled my eyes "so you can make the first move." Itsuki smiled sweetly as if I was gonna make a mistake. The president's blue eyes bore into my back, I could tell she was excited. For me to fail? Or for me to play well? Who knows, I'm just here to play the game.
I flipped over a jack of hearts, and gingerly led my fingers to another card. Sweat beaded on Itsuki's forehead, barely visible, but it was there. I flipped over the card to show a match. Itsuki's eyes widened and she looked at Kirari worriedly. I flipped over another card getting a two of spades and I quickly flipped over another, getting a match. I looked down, h/c whisps covering my eyes, and I giggled. I slowly raised my head to the same eye level as Itsuki's. "You scared already? I thought you were one of the best gamblers here?" People watching us were confused as to why Itsuki wasn't talking back. She didn't respond so I kept flipping over cards, getting matches one by one. The president was still watching intently, but it was starting to show she was bored.
Itsuki was already losing, and she hadn't even gotten the chance to flip over one card. I was already at 34 cards, so why not cut her some slack, it isn't interesting any other way. I flipped a card and purposely got a different card. Itsuki's face lit up, thinking I actually slipped up. "Guess it's my turn then." she flipped over a card, and matched it. This went on until she had 32 matches, and then she messed up. I could tell what card she wanted to get, but she picked the one next to it by accident. As she turned the wrong one around her confident face dropped. I giggled. My giggle turned into a laugh and I stared at Itsuki laughing. This. This is the reason I gamble. One second the people are so sure of themselves, then their eyes widen at their small mistake, and they start to shake. This! This is the thrill of gambling! The way your opponent slowly loses all confidence and BEGS you for another chance. "I-I guess it's your turn y/n." Itsuki whispers with her shaky voice, hanging her head slowly. I leaned across the table and picked up Itsuki's chin with my index finger making her look me in the eyes. Her eyes were wide and scared like a child who just had a nightmare. "If you're gonna cheat, at least do it well." I whispered in Itsuki's ear, smirking. "All right then. I won't keep you guys waiting any longer." I said, just to spite Itsuki. I flipped over the card Itsuki got wrong, and flipped over it's match. Itsuki started to sweat, seeing as I saw through her petty little cheat, and knew where the cards were. I just looked up at itsuki and grinned. I had this in the bag.
On my 50th match Itsuki was losing any confidence she had and had started clutching her head and closing her eyes to ignore whatever came next. I kept flipping and on the last match I needed to get, I couldn't find the card. I mentally slapped myself for getting this far and not remembering the place of the last card I needed to flip. I couldn't remember, so fake it till you make it right? I guessed a card in the far left corner, and as I flipped it I silently prayed, and Itsuki was doing the same. It's like ripping off a bandaid, the faster the better. So I flipped it and much to my surprise I was right. All the students watching were silent and then started applauding..? Itsuki turned so pale she could pass for a ghost. Runa walked up to her and patted her back "Nyahahhaha maybe you should have done something smarter Itsuki-san." Runa laughed while pointing to her head. "Good game Itsuki." I remarked. "Well I don't go against my word." Kirari said walking up to you "Welcome to the student council." She smirked, walking away.
Nothing else? I'm just on the council?" Almost like she read my mind Runa walked up to me and hooked our arms together and walked with me around the school, explaining when meetings were, what my new schedule was, etc. We arrived at the council room and Runa took me inside and pointed to a chair "That ones yours. It's close to mine so if you have any questions ask. Not always though. When I look focused on a game don't speak a word to me or your dead." Runa sent a piercing glare my way "Noted." I answered nodding my head. Oh and like I explained earlier since you only have the absolutely necessary classes now, you're free to just hang here in your free time unless you have better things to do nyahahaha." I nodded "Can I go get my stuff from my classroom?" I asked Runa, she just made a shooing motion with her hand as she dug around a closet in the council room. I slipped out the doors and walked down the halls.
Once I arrived at my classroom I saw Ryota and Yumeko chatting, and Mary rolling her eyes at them. Ryota was blushing so hard and yet Yumeko did not notice anything off. Once Yumeko saw me she rushed over and gave me a huge hug "Congrats y/n! You did amazing against Itsuki! But really anyone could win against her; she's all bark, no bite and doesn't think with her head enough." Yumeko whispered that last part and Mary fell off the desk she was sitting on dying of laughter. I snickered at this and then burst out laughing with Mary, it was very contagious after a few seconds Yumeko had joined us, clutching her stomach from laughing so hard. Ryota looked at us confused but still shot me a glare and I just flipped him off while Yumeko wasn't paying attention. "Well I only came to grab my stuff but I'm still gonna be going to some of the classes, so don't miss me too much!" I stuck out my tongue at them and walked back towards the council room.
