Evelyn's P.O.V.
There were several things that were at a loose end in my life. Where is Chase? Who killed Mihai? Who is Teo? Penelope's wedding was in less than 2 weeks. Was I going to be able to make it? Who was going to finish the organising? Yet the only answer I wanted to know was how far along I was. I knew deep down that I wasn't wrong. That I was correct. So, the only thing left was that there was something wrong with my baby. No matter what, I couldn't possibly stop my brain from worrying. My hand continuously traveled to Hayden's, gripping it, as my anxiety continued to jump up and down. Though his expression stayed strong and unbothered, I could tell that he was just as worried as I was. Our fight was still lingering, and nothing had been resolved yet. Too many things were happening for us to even talk about the baby properly or our relationship. There were bigger things to worry about.
The hospital walls had become claustrophobic and I was looking forward to going home. I missed my comfy bed and the smell of our sheets. The smell of medicine was making me nauseous.
"I will send the tests to the lab and we should have the results within the end of the week. In the meantime, you are on bed rest. No work. No exercise. No arguing or stress of any kind." The doctor smiled, filling in the forms for the tests. Her hair fell over her face over and over again and she continued to brush it away every other minute. Her skin looked to be made of porcelain. Her black hair shined under the fluorescent hospital lights. I felt intimidated by her. She looked like the perfect woman. I couldn't help but glance over at Hayden every once in a while, but his attention was only on me. I felt my heart slow. I felt stupid for allowing the thought to even cross my mind. Hayden nodded, before I even had the chance, agreeing with the doctor's advice.
"Okay." I bowed my head in agreeance. I was willing to do whatever it took to protect the baby inside me, even if it meant doing absolutely nothing.
"A nurse will call you when your results are in." The doctor smiled her teeth as white as snow, before getting up to leave.
"Thank you." Hayden shook the doctor's hand as she exited. I picked up the clothes Hayden had brought me and changed into them, before going home. By the time I had changed, Hayden had collected everything we needed, and we were ready to go. It was the first time we were going to be completely alone since our argument. I felt my heart race as we got into the car. We drove off in silence. I noticed Hayden looking over at me every now and then, but I didn't confront his looks.
"I'm sorry." His voice was steady. It caught me off guard, making me snap my head to look at him. I wasn't sure what I was expecting. I felt my heart tremble as I prepared to speak.
"For what?"
"Everything," he turned to look at me, "accusing you of cheating, suggesting the baby wasn't mine, arguing with you..." I could hear his voice starting to tremble as he cleared his throat. I could feel my heart tremble in return. I hated the thought that he was hurting. I had already moved on, having bigger things to worry about.
"It's okay," I replied with a reassuring smile. His lips twitched, as if wanting to say something else, but it quickly turned into a tight smile and we both returned to the silence.
Hayden had somehow managed to clean up any blood and glass that had been left behind. As soon as I walked into the room, flashbacks of everything that happened began to run through my mind. I hope Chase is okay. I knew I had no business worrying about a titan, but my heart had softened for Chase and I had begun to feel for him. I hoped that he was okay and that Hayden hadn't hurt him after I fainted.
I could hear the kettle Hayden had turned on and the clinking of cups that he was taking from the cupboard. I hoped we got the chance to speak more and go back to how we were before finding out about the baby. It felt like the last few weeks had gone by in a blur and I hoped my bedrest was going to slow it all down.
