Evelyn P.O.V
It felt like I was inhaling a new brand of oxygen. It was the most relieving feeling. I had forgotten what living without pain felt like. Like I had been chained to a mountain and unable to move. I could breathe easily, my belly felt calm and so did I. It was the best I had felt in months. I inhaled the crisp, clean air, before opening my eyes to the sun glistening through the window. I could feel Hayden's soft breath on my cheek.
"Hey," He whispered, as I blinked away the sleep from my eyes. I slowly turned on my side, with a big smile.
"Hey."
"How are you feeling?" He placed his soft hand against my face, brushing away my messy bed hair. He looked to only just woken as well. His features were enhanced by the light coming from the window. His hair looked lighter, and his purple eyes were bright and shiny. My heart jumped around in my chest like I had seen him for the first time.
"I'm okay, Harley did something, and it made all the pain go away." I smiled feeling my small baby bump that for the first time felt calm and pain-free.
"Good, are you ready to go home?" He brushed my hair continuously, looking longingly into my eyes. It had been a long time since we were so intimate. Any time he would come around I would get a weird feeling, an irritating feeling, but it was all gone. My hormones had been pushing all of my feelings to the surface and I couldn't stop them from pushing everyone around me away.
"What home? Our home is ruined." Images of our ruined apartment flickered through my mind, but they weren't the only thing on my mind. I wondered if Chase had been graced with the same pleasure of receiving a warning letter from Teo.
"I have it covered. It's already waiting for us." Hayden's smile was enough to pull me out of my thoughts.
"Really?" My heart jumped at the thought. I looked forward to moving in somewhere new. "You're always on top of everything." I leaned in closer, planting a soft kiss on his lips. It felt like I hadn't kissed him in days. Like we haven't been beside each other for weeks. Like we haven't been sleeping in the same bed.
"I try." He smiled, pulling me closer and wrapping his arm around my waist.
"I love you." The words came out of my mouth without even a thought. It felt like the first time, when we first fell in love, when we first admitted our feelings to each other.
"I love you." I could see my own reflection in his shiny eyes. We gazed into each other's eyes for a second, before descending into a long and passionate kiss. For those 30 seconds, there was nothing else. Just us two. Together. Just like it used to be. He caressed my hair as we pulled away, his smile was intoxicatingly bright.
"How did it go?" I tried to shake off the moment that had left little spiders crawling on my skin.
He shook his head slowly, his eyebrows narrowing down in confusion before his expression softened in realisation.
"It went fine." He looked down to the duvet, avoiding any eye contact.
"Was it really fine?"
"I lost my temper for a second, but it wasn't a bid deal, and," he inhaled a deep breath, "he very believably assured me that he had no idea that Max was just a pawn in Teo's game. He said Evie and Dorian both knew that he was a titan, but they thought he was an orphan and just like somebody else I know, her heart was too soft to turn away the titan." I rolled my eyes unable to stop myself. I knew what he was saying. I couldn't stop my feelings from protecting Chase and keeping him around despite everything that he had done. However, there was nothing wrong with giving somebody a second chance to do something right when they have done so much wrong. Everybody deserved a second chance.
