Chapter 30: Goodbye

You laid on the beach together and enjoyed each other for a few hours until your alarm woke you up. You reached over to your phone and dismissed it and then clung right back onto Eren. Neither of you wanted to leave. Your time at the beach had come to an end and you didn't want to accept it, but you had no other choice.

You sighed and lifted yourself off of him and sat up. He sat up after you and you exchanged solemn expressions. "Come on. Let's pick up the blanket and go back to the deck." Eren said as he slowly got up.

"...okay." You helped him shake the sand off of the bottom of the beach blanket and folded it. You both went up onto the deck. Eren held out his hands to you. You took ahold of them and he pulled you close, bringing you into a tight hug.

"We can't get too sad because we'll see each other next week. We'll be okay. We can talk on the phone as much as you want. I'll always be there waiting for you whenever you want to talk. It will all be okay." he quietly reassured you.

"Yeah... I just don't want to let go of the feeling of sneaking here and seeing you. It's been so fun and I can't believe that this week is over. I know that I'll never forget all of these memories, but I'm still currently living them right now while I'm here and I don't want that to end." You could feel your eyes start to water and your face get hot.

"I know what you mean because I feel the same way. But just think of it as a new chapter in a story. This chapter is over, but there will be sooo many more left to come. So many more experiences. And we can live those together. We just have to try our best to focus on how lucky we are to even have something like this that we could experience. Not everyone goes on a trip and ends up making a close friend that you sneak out to see every night." You could tell that Eren was good at giving advice. He seemed to be experienced with having harsh emotions and knowing how to deal with them.

"Thank you." you said as you could feel tears leave your eyes and soak into Eren's shirt.

You squeezed onto him even tighter and then finally let go. You looked right into his eyes as he gave you a soft smile and gently wiped your tears away. He lightly kissed you on the forehead and then pulled away. "Text me when you get home later today and I'll call you to make sure that everything went well."

"Okay. I will." you said, slightly smiling as tears kept streaming down your face.

"See you later."

"See you later, Eren."

You walked down the stairs and back onto the cool sand. You turned and waved before going back to the house. You felt like you could break down and start sobbing, but you had to listen to what Eren said. There were so many more great experiences ahead of you and this one just happened to be ending. You had to tell yourself to focus on what was to come, instead of focusing on the past and what would soon become memories.

You made it back to the house successfully and laid down in your bed. That was the last time you would be sneaking back into that house. It was definitely hard on you to know that, but you were also very grateful that you hadn't been caught the entire time and were able to go visit Eren. You closed your eyes and let out a deep sigh before going to sleep. You had left your bracelet that he gave you on your wrist and you didn't plan on taking it off any time soon. It was a reminder of the wonderful times you had.
