Chapter 41: Confrontation

At 8pm, you finally arrived at Eren's dorm building. You hadn't contacted him to tell him that you would be coming. Your stomach started feeling tight as you waited in your car and watched for someone to go into the building and unlock the door. You couldn't get in without a code, but you were just going to follow someone in casually. Nobody really cared that much so you knew it wouldn't be that hard to get in.

You finally saw someone walk towards the door, so you slung on your backpack and got out of your car and followed them in. You then started going down a hallway to Eren's room. You were nervous, but you knew it was what you had to do. You found his room number and stood in front of the door and took a deep breath. You knocked on the door and nervously waited for a few seconds.

The door opened. As soon as Eren saw who was standing in front of him, he froze and stared at you for a second before grabbing you and tightly hugging you. He didn't say anything. He just held onto you. You grabbed onto him and buried your face in him. You started crying, making his shirt get wet. You had so many emotions that you were feeling all at once, but you were mainly relieved that he was hugging you and wasn't upset that you had come.

After about a minute of holding each other in silence in the doorway, Eren finally spoke without letting go of you.

"Why did you come?" he quietly asked.

"Jean told me about what you said on the phone and I knew that I wanted to see you again and I didn't want to make you guess what I wanted." you softly said, not lifting your head.

"I'm so sorry. I let my emotions get the best of me that night and ended up just hurting you even more. You don't have to forgive me. I'm just glad that you at least wanted to talk to me again." he said, letting go of you and looking you in your eyes.

"It's okay. I'm just happy you reached out to Jean. If you hadn't done that, I wouldn't be here."

"Do you want to come in?" he gently asked.

"Yeah." you responded as you wiped your tears away.

You went into the room which was dimly lit by only a lamp and put your backpack on the ground. You then went and sat on his bed with your back against the wall. He closed the door and took a seat beside you. Both of you just looked straight ahead instead of facing each other.

"I'm just going to get straight to what we both want to know. What do you want to do from here on out?" he somewhat quietly asked.

"Honestly I don't think that this should be the end. All relationships have issues, but you just have to learn from your mistakes and move on. I don't think either of us actually want to stay broken up." you said.

"When I said that we can't do this anymore, I was being incredibly irrational and stupid. Instead of talking everything out with you, I decided to try to drop it all and pretend like nothing happened. I love you and I really didn't want to end things with you, but I decided to because in the moment I thought the best thing for you was to not have to see me anymore and eventually forget about me. That was the worst thing I could've done and I hate myself for it. So it's ultimately up to you to decide if we should get back together because you were the one that was hurt by me. I'm happy with whatever makes you happy." he sincerely admitted.

You paused for a few seconds to think. You knew that you wanted to be with him, but you didn't know the right words to say to make him really believe that you weren't mad at him.

"Eren. You know that I love you and everything that you said that night about how you put me in danger wasn't true. I decided to sneak out to see you, the time the guy harassed me had nothing to do with you, and you were never the one to start the fights. All you did was defend yourself. You haven't done anything wrong, you just felt like you did which was what caused your head to be in the wrong place and you beat yourself up about it and became irrational. All of that was for my sake. You were only trying to do what you thought would be the best for me.  I know that you had no bad intentions with anything because you clearly had my well-being in mind,  so I don't want to end things. I want to stay with you." you said as you looked at him and grabbed his arm and leaned against him.

"I promise that this won't happen again. I won't act on my own without talking things out with you anymore. Thank you so much for being so understanding and I'm so sorry that you had to go through so much pain this past week because of me. I don't know if I'll be able to make it up to you but I'll try my best." he said as he turned to face you and wrapped his arms around your waist.

"You don't have to do anything extra to try to make it up. Just being with you again is enough." you said, putting your hand around his neck and kissing him.
