Misaki~

It was already night when we were done and Cross had already the food done which is grilled fish over charcoal. I called it burnt fish because it looks somewhat black on the edges. Now I know why he got this big ass bags, he was carrying fishes on them geez. We distributed the paper fish as the smell of the burnt fish flew to the air as we huddled over the fire in front of us. It doesn't smell that bad though like I expected. I took a bite of the fish and to my surprise it tasted good, the lemon he squished all over it added to this unique flavor. The two of them seemed to have their minds occupied as the ate their foods absent mindly like I was. Will we survive? Will we get back to normal after?

"Cross is it still far?" Daniel suddenly asks breaking the silence.

"I think we're almost there" Cross says nonchalantly. He continued to stare at the stars in the sky.

"That's what you said a while ago" Daniel rolled his eyes. Cross ignored him and continued what he was doing. I didn't join in their conversation as I huddled closer to the fire as I sit on the log. It grew colder just now and I didn't bring my thick clothes. The sound we only heard were the crackling of fire as it burns on the dry woods giving us a warm glow, the crickets and the sound of birds on  on the forest as the leaves on the branches of the trees slowly swished through the wind. And it was the most satisfying thing ever. But then I remember the movie 'Wrong Turn'.

"Hey"

I looked up and saw Cross approaching me. I smiled  as I moved a little for him to have a space for him to sit in.

"Where's Daniel?" I had just realized he was nowhere to be seen.

"There, sleeping already" He pointed near the tent and true to his words I saw Daniel's faint sleeping outline in the dark. He was now sleeping on the hammock between the trees.

"Why didn't he just sleep inside the tent?" I frowned when I saw swishing his hands on the air as if battling invisible demons. He was clearly being targeted by the mosquitos.

"We already agreed you take that since you're the only girl" He says as he put his jacket on my shoulder.

"Oh okay, thanks" I nodded as I hugged the jacket on my shoulder. I can't complain right now since it was freezing cold.

"Aren't you cold?" I noticed he was only wearing a white shirt, almost hugging his muscles. /COUGHS.

"Nope, I'm immune to this" He smiles. He could have said, 'The cold never bothered me anyway' though.  I nodded as I didn't know what to reply next.  I only heard his steady breathing beside me.

"Misaki, I have to tell you something"

My heart seemed to beat hard at this as I felt the nervousness engulfs me after hearing the seriousness of his voice.  My breathing went unsteady as his ebony eyes swept mine.

"W-What?" I managed to speak. He gulps nervously as he bits his lip. He raked his hair upwards without looking in my eyes. He looked so cute doing that.

"Misaki" he breathed as he looks deep into my eyes. "I've been meaning to tell you this, to say this"

I gulped myself audibly as my heartbeat accelerates .

"You-I-um, You-" He stutters as my eyes widened.

"You have an eye booger here" He points at my left eyes.

"Huh?" My mouth went open for a second before hastily fishing out my mirror to take a better look on my eyes and there it fucking was sitting like a Majesty on its throne. I turned my back on him and wiped it away. This is goddamn embarrassing.

"Why didn't you just tell me directly than flipping put me on a cliffhanger!" I smacked him on his arm a little heard.  He winced and rubbed the part I had just hit.

"Why, what were you thinking I was gonna say?" He asks and I spot a hint of smile on his lips.

"Nothing, shut up" I huffed my brows furrowing. He's right Misaki, what were you expecting? Why do you sound so disappointed?

I groaned and stood up.

"Where are you going?"

"I'm about to to to sleep, what else" I say without even bothering to look back at him.

"Here! Your goddamn jacket!" I threw it at his face and I continued my pace.

"Misa-

I went inside my tent and if there was a door on it I would have slammed it. I propped myself down and shifted on my place. I got my pooh blanket as I placed it on myself. I huffed. Why am I like this?

I bit my lip and bid myself to sleep.

I didn't notice it was already morning until the suns ray directly hit my eyes through the gap on the opening of the tent. I got out with a yawn and saw them almost done packing out.

"Good morning my princess"  Daniel greets with arms wide open. I glared at him back.

"What's good in the morning?" I rolled my eyes.

"Whoa Misaki honey you seem to be in a bad mood now" he stops to correct myself.  "I mean you normally have this kind of attitude but now its much worse"

I suddenly met Cross' gaze and I immediately avoided his gaze. I started my way back to the tent and started disassembling it. I didn't notice Daniel was now beside me as he helps me take it down.

"It's your red day now right?" He whispers on my ear and I was about to give him a good beating but he quickly ran away laughing maniacally.

"Get back here and kiss your life away" I muttered under my breath. I continued my work without noticing Cross beside me.

"Let me help you" he offered. I didn't mind him and continued my work without sparing a glance at him. I completely ignored his presence until we were done.

"Thanks" I say nonchalantly as I got an apple from my bag.

"Cross" I called his attention and he looks at me almost expectantly. His eyes swept through mine. I cleared my throat. "Lead the way"

I pointed at the trail in front of us and he seemed to get his senses back as he cleared his throat.

"Right" He quickly walked first as we followed him closely. We were just silently goes through the steep mountain. I couldn't even keep track on how many hours we were trekking.

"We're here" I nearly bumped into Cross' back as he suddenly stops. I glared at his back but stopped when I saw the cave before us. It was quite cold out here since we were almost the peak. I gaped at the beautiful view behind us. If we had a nice view on that cliff now was 10 times more beautiful. We could see everything from here, especially the sea who seems to be one with the sky.  I raised my arm upwards. It's like we could almost touch the sky here.

"We have to get moving" Cross announces for a while and the two of us complied immediately. The inside of the cave was dark and the air was much colder but it was nothing compared to the view.  He suddenly stops as his face becomes unreadable. I touched his arm.

"Are you okay?" I ask worriedly forgetting our little feud.

"Yes, I just remembered something"

"What?"

"My family" he smiles sadly.
