I smiled faintly at him as I don't know how to comfort him.
"Everything will be fine Cross, this will be over, I promised you that"
"I hope Misaki, I really hope" he says hopefully. I bit my lip as I looked to him. Me too, Cross. We continued our way deeper into the cave where even the drop of water from the ceiling would be heard throughout the whole place. It was creepily enchanting.
"This place is beyond beautiful" Daniel exclaims as he stairs at the glowing crystallites that was on the ceiling ranging in different sizes. I silently agreed. This place is spectacular. Except for the fact that if an earthquake suddenly occurs then we'd be staked dead. The only sound we could hear as we venture was our footsteps and the water drop dripping from the crystallites above us.
"Mom, Dad and I would spent hours here just looking at those" he points at the crystallites with a faint smile on his lips. "As we talk about stuff, we really were a weird family I guess"
He smiled at the memory and I couldn't help but feel sad for him. He really loved his family and I wish I could just turn the time back and change it all for him to be happy.
"And at night we would camp outside watching the stars as we'd cuddle" He looked so distant now. I wish I could erase all the pain from him. We grew silent as I didn't know how to properly respond that won't make him hurt more inside.
"Guys! I think you should see this" Daniel calls out in a distance and we immediately run to him. He has his magnifying glass on his hands and it seems like he's been searching.
"Wait, don't tell me you brought that thing this entire trip?" I blinked twice as I pointed at the thing he's holding carefully on his hand.
"We needed it!" He exclaims as if it's the most obvious thing in the world. "Now come closer, there's something weird there"
He ushered us. We looked through the magnifying glass and he was right.. There was like a key shaped carved on the large wall.
It looked like Cross' necklace.
We didn't have to tell Cross what to do as he removed the necklace from his neck and placed it in the carved up stone. It's like we couldn't breath as we saw how it perfectly fits. We agitatedly waited for something to happen.
"So what now?"
Just as Daniel said those, the ground suddenly shook and we held on each other for support. The three of us glanced at each other probably thinking because my worst nightmare just came true. We'd be staked alive here. Suddenly as I was about to run for my life, at the wall beside the key, it made a shape of a door and it slid open and the quake stopped. Shit, this cave is full of secrets.
We used our flashlights to get a visual what was there only to see a long stair going down. The stairs was made of stones. It looked never ending.
"Ladies first?" Daniel gestures with his hand down as he gulped. I narrowed my eye at him and make a move in pushing him.
"Holy shit, stop that!" his high-pitched screams echoed hauntingly. Geez. That was annoying.
" Just man up and go first" I urged him as I pushed him slightly.
"Okay,okay, Just wait"
"boo!" I half-shouted at him right in the moment he was taking one step down the stairs. He screamed in fright and before we could process what was happening he was already out of balance and was rolling on the stairs with a thud. The last one sounded like a broken bone though.
