Chapter 12: Too Kind
"Brooklyn, get over here you rascal." My cousin, Owen, hugs me. It's Saturday, and I'm meeting up with him and his girlfriend, Genevieve."Awe, hey Owen." I hug his 6'7 tall body. And I'm only 5'2. There's a difference. "Hey Genevieve!" I hug his girlfriend. She's a little taller than me, and is super pretty. She has dirty blonde hair, and grey/green eyes. Owen has dark brown hair, and deep blue eyes.
"Hey Little B." She hugs me, giving me her nickname for me.
"Hey Tall G." I smile. I sit down on the opposite side, and look at the menu. Ever since I've had that first lunch from Mrs. Samuels, she's been giving me a lunch, to build up a strong stomach. Even if I'm still extremely thin. Ugh.
I order two eggs and hash browns. They were delicious. I don't know if you've ever tasted them, but yum. I run to the bathroom, fearing I may of overeaten, but surprisingly, I was okay.
I walk out, and smile. Today was going to be great.
"So I was thinking we should go laser tagging. We haven't gone in ages." Owen says.
"Yeah, that sounds super fun." I smile.
"You can invite anyone." Genevieve says. I text Lilly but she's out with her mom, buying a new apartment. Then I take a risk and call Hunter.
He can come.
Great.
"Let's go then, my friend is on his way." I grab my jacket.
"Him?!" Owen steps in front of me.
"He's a friend. And a partner, we have a project. And we haven't worked on it for awhile." I think the last part out. "But it's due in May, so never mind."
"Then let's go." Genevieve says, and we go out to the car.
When we get to the laser tag place, Hunter was sitting in one of the waiting chairs. "Hi, I'm Hunter. Are you...." He stands up, and Owen steps forward.
"We're cousins. And this is my girlfriend, Genevieve." he wraps his arms around G. She smiles up at him.
We buy our two games (slash Owen pays for all of us), and right away we are forced into the "rules" room. I sit in the middle of Hunter and Owen. The two giants.
I watch Hunter go on his phone while we "listen" to the rules. Then we go into a dark room, where we get our gear. I pick a red vest with the name Cupcakes.
"Hey Cupcake." Hunter nudges me, picking up the red one labeled Firehound.
"Firehound." I nod, smiling. We walk to the garage door thing, and when it dings, I follow Hunter somewhere.
Then the game starts.
****
"Hunter!" I scream as I'm getting attacked by all the blues.
And by blues I mean all these 13 year old boys, trying to get at me. If you know what I mean.
"I'm here!" He jumps out in front of me, and starts shooting. I smile as I shoot from behind him, then the kids run off, giving up.
"Thanks." He turns to me.
"Anytime, Cupcake." He steps into my personal space. I have a strong feeling he loves nicknames.
I feel his breath on my lips, as my heart rate goes up, my eyelids fall down until they are shut. I had no idea what he was going to do, nor did I care. He cups his hands around my small face, and presses his forehead against mine. "We're partners, yet I know nothing of you, Brooklyn." he says. I was going to say something probably really stupid so thanks/I hate you Owen.
He "accidentally" runs into us.
"Move guys!" He says. I heard Hunter groan, and I smiles. He was going to kiss me....or something else.
We speed walk behind Owen, and I feel Hunter's hand brush passed mine. I look at him, and he looks back, grinning as he does.
"Maybe later." He whispers. He jogs up to Owen, and they shoot everyone in the way, protecting me. I felt special.
When we reached the area where we are suppose to protect, Owen went off again to find Genevieve, leaving Hunter and I.
"Thanks." I smile at Hunter. He chuckles.
"For what?
"Ummm...saving me?" I am a complete and utter disappointment to the whole of humankind.
"Anytime?" There was an awkward pause, then we both just start laughing.
Then the loud and obnoxious sound sounds off around the whole laser tag place. It was rather loud and annoying.
"This was so fun." Hunter bumps me as we walk back.
"Yea, but thanks to Owen. I love him so much." I sigh.
"You shouldn't hate anyone, because they'll either change your life or never be in it...I don't know where I'm going with this."
"Awe, your trying to be inspirational. I think I'll make that my next Instagram post." I tease, even if I don't have one.
"Your too kind, Cupcake." He chuckles. "Too kind."
Not much to say except that you are worth it...no matter what people say. I love you. :) <3
